I think both Kirk and Sisko are too driven by emotions and prone to bouts of hysteria to be considered superior captains. Sisko, however, seemed a little better at asserting his authority, exerting an intimidating/commanding presence, and dealing with a lot of problems between different people. Picard was just more classy, restrained, believable as an authority figure, and like I said in another thread, DISCIPLINED which I think gives him the edge in assessing who was a more ideal captain.
You're right. I should look at Janeway leading the poll as possible and positive. It does show that miracles can happen.
In the last poll on this subject a month ago Kirk, Picard and Sisko were all close with Sisko having a narrow lead with around 30 votes. Janeway was back on 13 or 14 and Archer had around 5 or 6. Over the course of one day Janeway overtook Kirk, Picard and Sisko and then held a five-point lead over Sisko. It turns out that the poll was posted on some Voyager board and around 20 militant Janeway fans signed up here in order to vote for her. You could see that nearly all the votes she got in that period were from cadets. It is possible that this has happened again or that those Janeway fans have stuck around since last time.
^ Dear Ben is right. I'm a good example of a Janeway fan (although I wouldn't describe myself as militant, but well ), I "have stuck around since last time" and I'm enjoying myself here despite of the hostile attitute towards Janeway and more generally Voyager fans on this board.
Es, Triumphant was just making a joke. I'm not sure exactly what meaning he is using for "poll" here, but it's some sort of pun on the word "poll." Whatever definition he's referring to, all he's saying is that Janeway hasn't got a "poll." So it really wasn't a hostile comment, I am pretty sure. Now it might very well be a bad pun...
I have to laught to that smiley! I can almost hear the beat of the drums after that so called so called "punchline". Maybe it was referring to "pole". It is pronounced almost like "poll." Either way, also Janeway is still able to smile.
Well, in *my* dictionary the first meaning of a poll is "head". I gather it was a pun, but talking about KJ having no head is hostile. I like the creative use of your fiddle, Tach!
Yes. Bad pun. And I'd have said the same thing if Captain Garrett was the only female in the list, because the pun was the thing. Where in the heck did that picture come from? That's the first time I have ever seen that woman look even vaguely appealing!
I like Sisko because instead of him just being a Captain right off the bat, you see him earn his promotion and it's cool. That, and he looks so badass when he's bald.
Oh - also, I don't have a hostile attitude toward Voyager fans, and I'm actually a bit of a Tim Russ cheerleader, myself.
So what? Post this poll on DS9 or TNG boards and get fans to sign up if you don't like Janeway winning. I voted for Janeway, I really liked her the best. I like Picard as well, but sometimes he could be a little bit too stiff.
The show ran seven years. Did you really think that would have happened if everybody hated the star? No, I'm not on the production staff, and it's not my favorite Trek, and she's not usually my favorite captain, but I did enjoy it and I did like her. Most of the time.
Amazingly, yes it did. But it wouldn't have had TNG and DS9 not set that precedent. I was worried that Enterprise was going to be dragged on for that long. But luckily somebody came to their senses. I mentioned nothing about hating. Hell, I like Janeway too. But she is not the best Trek captain.
