Why did everyone hate "Faith of the heart"?

It could've been "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy."
Hmm... when it comes to faith as being the belief something can occur, even though it has not, and with the knowledge that "anything can happen" then faith does make sense with the line "I can do anything part."
Because, what is "anything?" Really, you can only have faith in such a statement- the belief that you can do what you put your mind to because... who knows? I wish I could fly, breathe under water... but in the past, that was nonsense. But now really, those things are viable. So I think the point was to work towards your goals, believe in yourself, and so even though you can't see it, you can still accomplish them? I don't think faith is uniquely religious.
It still has connotations to our relationships with people doesn't it? Fidelity, confidence in individuals?

It came from the Patch Adams soundtrack! A movie that came out in 1998. It wasn't even a hit from Rod Stewart. Why would they use a song that was already used in another movie for the next incarnation of Trek? The show was fantastic, but I bet a lot of people turned the channel when the son came on. The only time contemporary music should be used in Trek is when something like in First Contact, Zephram Cochrane puts on Steppenwolf.

That's my main complaint about it, and about the show in general - it was all borrowed. Borrowed the 'hero' ship design, borrowed the theme song, borrowed the Ferengi, borrowed the Borg, borrowed the mirror universe - they borrowed everything in that show, and then expected everyone to believe it 'wasn't their father's Star Trek.' Heck, they even borrowed the ship and series' name. It was a complete clusterf*** that they 'programmed' to spark recognition in the fans, while at the same time they hoped and told the non-fans that it was somehow "completely fresh." It was yesterday's fish. You'd think that, knowing how important this series was to revitalizing the franchise, they would have actually committed themselves to making it the best series possible, instead of trying to get away with "The Best of Star Trek," a compilation album.

I thought the song was just fine. Fit the show well.
It's not the weakest TREK series theme in my eyes. TNG is the worst...if you can even call the thumping, awesome Jerry Goldsmith score from TMP "inferior" in any way. It just ranks last because it was a predictable rehash with few changes and nothing original.

What if it had been done with out the vocals, but still the same song?

I liked the video montage of space flight history in the theme, but the soundtrack was just not right... No prior Star Trek theme had vocals and so it was a standard that should be upheld. A different instrumental theme could have been authored... similar tones but different composition. Look at Voyager--it was very distinct from TNG and DS9, and yet still had weaved inside it a "Star Trek" sound to it. The ENT theme was a complete departure, with NOTHING in common to the other series. Yes, the montage was definitely unique, but in a good way... and does end with a segment of the Enterprise NX-01 flying by, which was consistent with the other series. But the song? Nah... just didn't feel that it fit with the subject.
