Fate of the background survivors

Crewman47

Commodore
Newbie
Out of the known background surviviors who do you actually see surviving till the end of the series cause as of the current episode there must be like a dozen extras left plus Bernard and Rose, the rest all seem to be getting killed off like roaches.

I was actually surprised in the last few episodes of the last season when nine of them got killed off, 3 in the barracks and 6 on the freighter and then at the start of the new season another 7 or 8 got killed off. I think it would be great if at least Scott/Steve got to survive and even have say something at the end of it, like maybe tell us who he really is once and for all.

Any ideas?

It seems like more of them died off-screen at the Barracks last season, based on the big crowd during the split in "The Beginning of the End." It definitely looked like more than just three un-named background guys went with Locke.

According to Lostpedia, there are only three redshirts surviving at this point. Ouch! ""Ellie states that there were only 20 people at the beach camp before the attack. Subtracting the eight known casualties in "The Lie" and the two redshirts killed by the claymore mines, there are now at most only 10 beach camp residents alive on the island, including Sawyer, Juliet, Daniel, Charlotte, Miles, and possibly Rose and Bernard. ""

I recently finished S1 of Lost and some of S2, I really hate it that Boone and Shannon died, we got to keep Rose and Bernard, but I wish they hadn't died that early in the series.

Really? So wait, let me see if I have this straight, as I'm not sure if I'm remembering this correctly: Up through late Season 4, there were still quite a few (dozens, at least) Flight 815 survivors. Then a bunch of them were ferried over to the freighter, which ended up blowing up, and I guess everyone there except for the O6 died(?).

So are you saying that, after that, there were only 20 left on the Island (which actually includes some refugees who are not Flight 815 survivors, like Faraday, Juliet, etc.), and (after the beech attack) we're now down to a situation where there are just three (at most) remaining miscellaneous redshirt Flight 815 survivors left alive on the Island? All of the other remaining survivors are main characters, or quasi-main characters like Rose and Bernard?

That sounds about right. The story has never had anything to do with those background guys to begin with, so I've always wondered why they bothered having them around other than for Jack's leadership speeches or for dramatic effect when they split up last season. Except for the hypochondriac guy in the first season and Frogurt appearing on the raft, none of them have been important. I guess it makes the camp look more like a camp with 40 people, but that's about it. I wonder if any of them were on Locke's Hatch button-pushing shift list.

I often stopped the episodes to count the people in the background, they never had 40 people on screen at one time, heh, usually it was around 20 at most, even in the scenes when they were supposed to be talking to all of the survivors.

LOST needs a "Battlestar Galactica" style survivor count at the beginning of each episode just so we can keep track of who's left.

After all, Bentham told Jack that after he left terrible things happened. I took that to mean the death of all the redshirts, amongst other things.

Some of S2? Please tell me this isn't your first viewing! I saw you in the commentary thread last week and if you're watching S5 stuff without having seen the rest you're doing yourself a huge disservice!

FWIW, anyway.

I should ammend, I've watched S1-4 by skipping through episodes on ABCs website, mostly the background flashbacks, and there is a lot in S4 I haven't seen. But I've started sitting down and watching each episode all the way through finally, about 4 episodes a day, I'm up to S2-EP10 right now. I'm pretty familiar with the happenings to allow me to watch S5, but am missing many things, I'll get caught up, working as fast as I can at it, at 4 episodes a day gonna take a while.

Oh okay. I love this show so much I just feel the need to be protective and bitch-slap anyone not doing their due diligence with it ;)

But it looks like you've got your bases mostly covered.
