Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Last Generation [Spoilers]

Anybody else following this comic miniseries? What's the general feeling out there about it? I just finished issue #3, and I've got to say it's picked up a little bit for me. I think the biggest surprise for me was Tasha/Laren, but I still don't know how I feel about it... as soon as I saw it, I thought "Oh, wow, Tasha's going to die a senseless death again." I was proven a little wrong, though not too wrong altogether!

I'm enjoying the series, as I have been since IDW started their run with Star Trek. The writing in TLG has been average but Gordon Purcell's art is growing on me, and I like that the story isn't just another "mirror universe" story. It's another universe entirely just like the Myriad universe anthologies. For those who aren't picking it up monthly, this story is probably best enjoyed in one shot. Waiting for the TPB isn't a bad idea...then again, supporting monthly comics isn't a bad idea either!

I'm enjoying the series, as I have been since IDW started their run with Star Trek. The writing in TLG has been average but Gordon Purcell's art is growing on me, and I like that the story isn't just another "mirror universe" story. It's another universe entirely just like the Myriad universe anthologies. For those who aren't picking it up monthly, this story is probably best enjoyed in one shot. Waiting for the TPB isn't a bad idea...then again, supporting monthly comics isn't a bad idea either!

I thought this was a Myriad Universe story.

^^It's a Myriad Universes story, yes. It's labelled as such on the covers. Although my understanding is that it was originally conceived independently of MyrU and then had the MyrU supertitle added as a cross-promotion.

I've only picked up a few other Trek IDW titles... I read Intelligence Gathering, and I read the first part of the Romulans one. I hated them. I wanted to like them... I actually liked quite a bit of the artwork, but I really couldn't get into the story. This time it's the reverse - I'm liking the story more, it has a real Yesterday's Enterprise vibe to it, but I'm finding the art to be not really to my liking.

I've enjoyed the TNG comics, especially the Alien Spotlight featuring the Borg. I also really liked the first TOS Year 4 mini-series (classic fun trek!)as well as the Mirror Universe mini-series and the Klingon centric mini-series. I didn't like the Romulan books in the least, but that's probably more to do with my intense dislike of John Byrne than the quality of the actual story.

As for the Romulan stuff, John Byrne has done good work with that, but if you want the really good stuff, try the "Year Four" series written by Dorothy Fontana and pencilled by Gordon Purcell. There's going to be an Alien Spotlight II series, with issues focusing on the Klingons (by KRAD, by the way) and even on on ... Tribbles.

No, it's supposed to be about what the story of "A running man can cut a thousand throats in one night" means to Kang. (I think that's right. It's about one of the Klingon proverbs. The other one in my head is "Only a fool fights in a burning house.")

They're not due in shops until March, so you'd need a time machine to have them.

IDW puts as many ads in their comics as the other publishers; they just put them together at the end, rather than spreading them out throughout the publication. I wish they'd do a lettercol, though I wonder how much mail they get from fans in this day and age.

Unfortunately, "The Space Between"'s conclusion relied on readers remembering that Admiral Nechayev was, canonically, very fond of Bularian canapés.

They don't have more ad pages than other comics, but readers said they'd rather have the story run uninterrupted.

You are not the only one. I've enjoyed all the TNG comics from IDW. I'm not usually a fan of when comics depict a time during the run of the show but The Space Between & Intelligence Gathering were decent stories with great art. You could tell that the writers of each series knew the material and that they were actually fans

No, but there will be an AS one-shot focused on the tribbles, and that has Klingons in it...

As for my Klingon story, Allyn almost had it: It's called "Four Thousand Throats..." and it has Kang at three different points in his life telling someone a story which could be the origin of the proverb "four thousand throats may be cut in a single night by a running man."

I guess I should state for the record that I'm definitely not a TNG fan. Still, I read the comics to support Trek being back in that medium. I thought that watching Next Generation was the price we paid to get DS9.

And I've liked John Byrne's art for a long time, all the way back to the X-Men days. That's not to say that I agree with him on a number of issues, but it's cool seeing how he's dealt with Trek. Fun aplenty.
