Spoilers For Stargate Universe's Pilot

I dunno. I think SG-1 and SG:A have survived largely on the basis of lead actors who the audience finds compelling enough to stick with. I wouldn't be surprised if SG:U takes a big hit in the ratings early on. Robert Carlyle strikes me as more of a character actor type, not a leading man. He's Zelenka, not Shep.

Maybe they'll place a Shep among the rest of the cast. I'll be keeping an eye out for casting info; I think that will make or break a show like this, which really doesn't have much in the writing department to fall back on.

I like the idea that they can't alter their course and the danger of staying too long away and getting left behind.

It won't be long until they find their way around that plot device.

That's what I figure. Pretty much like the freezing gate travel at the start of SG-1. Although that would have been okay if the women wore t-shirt uniforms. Pig.

In fairness they had to change that because it cost too much money to do so every time.

Why do you need 100 episodes for syndication? It's a Stargate show, it will get bought if there are 2-3 seasons and I think the show is guaranteed at least 2 seasons because Sci-fi is a garbage channel.

Let the 5 year journey begin before its canceled just after its 100th episode. Coincidentally enough for syndication money.

You really think Universe will last 5 years?

Yes I do, based on how the Scifi channel has handled the last two franchises.

5 seasons for SG-1

5 seasons for Atlantis

and potentially 5 seasons for Universe

What about a saturated franchise that's running out of ideas, with potentially a large chunk of fans losing interest after 13+ non stop years of SG on the air with mostly falling ratings.

I would also put money on Carlyle only lasting one or two seasons (at the most)

I will totally call you on that! :techman: Ten American bucks if Carlyle leaves within two seasons for either him wanting to leave or the writers writing him off. However, on the chance the series is canceled within that two years (therefore making the decision for Carlyle to leave outside of anyone's hands on the show), then the bet is void (in other words, the series has to last at least until a third season). You game?

SG-U will last 4 seasons due to franchise fatigue and no real new writers, I think we see the first time ever the SG franchise hits a rating below 1.0. Oh well 4 seasons and 80 episodes should be ok I guess, the pilot sounds ok but far behind the levels of Rising/Children of The Gods.

Yep, just like Atlantis was DS9

So where was Stargate TNG.

TNG = SG-1 - Explorers searching the galaxy
DS9 = Atlantis - Explorers stationed on a base, stumbling around, getting into fights
VOY = Universe - A ship lost, far from home

Sounds right though with Universe probably only going to last 5 seasons, it would be a good thing to be like Voyager since it was the last 2 years that really screwed Voyager. Infact while S1/2 were slow, I felt 3-5 were Voyagers peak so lets hope we get a similar result with Universe.
