I think John finally does (whatever it takes) and Skynet is prevented from existing. Cameron fades out of existence as the time stream fixes itself. John and Sarah lose their memories of the Terminators and "re-set" to a more normal existence.
Sarah Connor Chronicles has established that the future is changing in little ways every single time someone goes back......yet the people who went back before have no memory of the most recent version of events.
I'd do the infinite time loop ending. The last movie is in the future and shows the battle that the humans go through in order to get to the time travel machine. The last shot is of Kyle stepping through the machine with Connor watching on.

Coming full circle, I like that idea

The camera pans around him and you hear a voice come out of the computer speakers.
"Hello, Dave," and the guy grins. Fade to black. The title would be:
All Our Nightmares, Torn Asunder

That would also be my preferred ending.
I want Judgment Day to be utterly erased from existence. Just like in T2's Future Coda ending.
I would have ended it with the first movie.
I'll give T2 the thumbs up on the areas it deserves praise, like special effects and sceens like the truck crashing into the aquaduct. However the writing acting and storyline fail on so many levels. Particularly the efforts to have cute bonding moments between Arnie and the kid. Those sceens made me want to puke and pretty much ruined the entire film.I would have ended it with the first movie.
Despite my love for some of what's come after, I find myself saying "here's a frood who really knows where his towel is."
It wasn't just one nuclear bomb, Skynet used the worlds nukes already there to destroy us with
Maybe they should go back into the past and stop computers from being invented, heh
