Will Captain Robau capture Tony Stark and force him to build the Jericho missile?
Not the Jericho missile, but the Jericho Photon Torpedo.

You know, even though I KNEW Kim from "Home and Away" was playing George Kirk, it STILL made me angry when I saw his picture.
For Americans, this would be like Susan Lucci being cast as Betsy Ross or one of your other highly vaunted female historical figures.
It is just REALLY odd.
Cant argue with you there, my girlfriends mum watches it along with all the other popular soaps in the UK...so I know where your coming from.Nah - I think it's because H&A is such a low budget, piss poor show(I am qualified to say that because I actually watched it for a while)and the acting is all terrible. The thought that somebody from that dreck was deemed worthy of being in a $150m tent pole film kinda boggles my mind. Plus he will just always be Kim to me from that show.
Also, how can I say, he is NOT a very good actor and I am getting ready to cringe when he is onscreen.
I did not know that, I just remember reading about Gibson talking about being an Australian, mayb it was just about growing up there.Oh and edited to add - Gibson actually IS an American. He was born there but raised in Oz. I remember even seeing his dad on a quiz show here in the early '80's and he spoke with a thick Yank accent.
Then we should hire black, brown, or yellow actors to appear in "whiteface" for all of the English, German ,Irish, etc. characters that dominate film. Makeup can do wonders these days.It does work in Firefox, but I recall a certificate issue when we saw things on the Intel site earlier this year. I also recall discussion of the nationality of the name and it seemed to turn up as Spanish/Latino more often than anything else.Took a while for me to load in FF, but it eventually worked. I'm pretty disappointed that they made Robau Cuban, instead of Pakistani though. Not to be racist, but I think a Pakistani captain would have made a larger impact, especially in today's world.
That the actor isn't Hispanic is a detail; if Ricardo Montalban can play a man with Sikh-Indic heritage, then I don't see a problem with a Pakistani actor playing a part written as Hispanic. That's called acting, and if he's the right guy for the part, then that should be all that counts. We would have been much the poorer if Anthony Quinn had been allowed to play only Mexican-Irish characters.

No, no, the Hollywood rules are that all brown skinned people are interchangable as are all Asians. That's why Korean Cho is playing Japanese Sulu.![]()

Zooming in on the hanger area, it appears that the hanger deck extends almost the entire length of the nacelle.

Just as odd as Mel Gibson playing American characters
Might the similarity in the appearance of the Kelvin Capt. serving with George Kirk and Nero have something to do with the plot, I think that would be a rather interesting plotline.
Someone already pointed that out, New Yorker till his family moved to Oz when he was 12, wonder if he would say he was American or Australian, or a bit of both...its like British born people moving to Canada (like my Dads Aunt) and calling themselves Canadian. You know, even though I KNEW Kim from "Home and Away" was playing George Kirk, it STILL made me angry when I saw his picture.

Not odd at all, really, since Mel *is* American (as is Susan Lucci).
(seriously. Mel was born and raised in Peekskill, New York. You can look it up.)
That Monchezkean is definitely well-realized, or at least seems to be. Just seems a bit bizarre to have such an overwhelmingly alien character as a member of Starfleet so far back in the timeline (I know, I know ... "WHICH" timeline are we really seeing?)
Also seems to be just another attempt at some Star Wars-ification of this brand of Abrams Trek. Throw in aliens to make the Starfleet universe seem more far-reaching. Then again, maybe its too soon to tell. After all, I remember some of those ridiculous alien designs from the later TOS movies, especially one that looked sorta like a giant marshmallow head!
Oh well, only 5+ more months ...
On the other hand, I always thought it was odd that a Federation made up of so many different worlds had Starships that had crews that were almost entirley human. That Monchezkean is definitely well-realized, or at least seems to be.
