He is lying.
He's trying to pull a bait and switch.
Tell Trek fans one thing and then give them something different.

Prove it. Prove it. Prove it.
Or, fuck actual Proof, just please provide some... any... evidence to back your position. I don't think you can do that. Orci isn't the liar here, but I'm pretty sure we all know who is.

Yes, he is the liar.

Yes, he is the liar.

Give us proof...

I just told you what these asshole in Hollywood do.
Are you fucking blind?

You just gave me a totally unsupported opinion, and nothing more. I am challenging you because I'm not fucking blind, but can clearly see that you've not provided a single shred of evidence to back up a single claim you've made in this thread.

MattJC, when people start reacting like this... you need to get outta there!

Face facts, fans have never owned Star Trek. We don't have any real say or influence. TOS fans getting their show back is pure myth. Back then Paramount needed a project pronto to cash in on the success of Star Wars. They may have considered a recast back then. The whole franchise from TNG thru ENT owes its existence to cold hard cash. If the studio want to split apart the universe apart, into Prime and Nu from now on, there's absolutely nothing you or I can do about it. Just walk away. It needn't spoil your enjoyment of what has gone before.

Nobody is going to force you to see the film or make you buy the DVD. I'm undecided myself. There are Indy fans who hate the fourth film and probably wouldn't give it shelf space alongside Raiders. Same with the Star Wars films made too long after the series' glory days... Empower yourself, MattJC. Do as others do. Pick and choose your Trek. Disregard the rest.

I just told you people why they are liars.
It's not my fault you are so blinded by your love for Abrams and Orci.

But you're missing the point...

I KNOW that this film will be very different than the other Star Treks that I grew up with. I KNEW the ship was going to look different. I don't think anyone lied to me. Orci said almost 1 1/2 years ago that this will be a "reimagining" of the Star Trek universe. I believed him then, and he seems to have been telling the truth, because -- low and behold -- this seems to be a reimaginging of the trek universe (at least a visual one, and maybe even more than that)

And, as of right now, I STILL want to see this film. I'm not blinded by anything.

Maybe you were blindly expecting this to look more like TOS, even though the evidence pointed to the contrary, but this is (more-or-less) the type of film I expected.

He and Abrams said they were respecting canon.
That was a lie.

That remains to be seen. I haven't laid eyes on anything yet that screams out "blatant disregard for canon."

Maybe you have, I don't know. In any case, the worst you can accuse them of is having a different interpretation of "respecting canon" than you do.

Instead of you know, flinging around baseless accusations.

He and Abrams said they were respecting canon.
That was a lie.
could you please cite the instances that canon is being violated?..and besides the visuals. Lets agree that the look has changed, but let's stipulate -- for the sake of this argument -- that the art design does NOT constitute canon.

What changes to "historical canon" or "character canon" have they definitely made?

...by the way, I suppose there will in fact be some historical canon that will not be 100% respected, but I surmise it will be nothing critical.

He and Abrams said they were respecting canon.
That was a lie.
Again, prove this.

Look at the damn trailer and all the pictures released.

I have. What's your point? How does the look of an altered timeline dis-respect canon any more than, oh, let's say dead Tasha Yar serving on the Enterprise B? Unless you have some proof that this story does indeed resolve in conflict with Trek's already spotty canon, then just admit that you're just railing on ignorant conjecture and nothing more.
