I have it on good authority... authority that MattJC can hardly argue with... that Orci and company plan, despite apparent changes that would seem to indicate the contrary, that their movie will "fit" into the existing Trek canon/continuity. Moreover, that the changes will be explained in the story.

Mr. Orci gave me some examples from past Treks which give some precedence( I don't know if I spelled that right) for what is happening with this movie.
Here is his exact post to me:

Did you see the TNG episode "Yesterday's Enterprise?" Or Star Trek iV? Was Tasha coming back to life, or the theft of whales a canon violation?

And he's got a point. I can think of several other episodes in the Trek canon where the timeline is altered in some way.

I sent him a reply asking if we'll get an explanation on why the Enterprise looks different. I wasn't looking for spoilers, just a simple yes or no question.

The only beef I think you can have with Orci is if he clearly told you there WOULD be an explanation, but now you have some other proof that there will in fact NOT be an explanation.

Did Orci clearly state the former, and do you have proof of the latter?

2) There is a difference between "respecting canon" and "following it to a T." Nobody ever said this was not a reboot or a reimagining of the Star Trek universe. If you expected it to look exactly like it did in the 60s, you were being incredibly naive.

3) Visual/design changes do not negate "canon." (Mods, can we issue warnings to anyone who used the word "canon"? The word is becoming meaningless). Like any worthy filmgoer, we should be much more concerned with the characters and story rather than the look of the Enterprise's warp nacelles.

I for one (and, I suspect, most of the other members of this board) have never had, nor do I expect to ever have, any personal contact with Orci or anyone else associated with this film.

I want to see this film because I think (so far) it looks and sounds like it will be a good time at the theater -- I expect to eat a tub-o-popcorn, drink a ginormous Coca-Cola, and watch a fun and exciting movie -- and come out of the theater smiling.

Agreed. Come May 09, grab up your 10 bucks (or whatever movies cost where you live) and give it a shot. I think most of us have seen movies at the theaters that weren't worth the money of admission at one point or another, and honestly, i dont think this one will be one of them.

I suspect that if Orci was subjected to the same behavour we've seen here and at Trekmovie.com, no wonder our Matty was being ignored. Why he continues to get away with this around here while other noble upstanding posters such as yourself get the warnings is beyond me. But I guess they let Stewey post here for years and they still allow others to continue to pollute fandom with their irrational hatred and negativity.
