He, just like everyone else in Hollywood who has a film to plug, is telling people, non-trek fan and trek fan alike, what they want to hear to get them to shell out money to see this piece of garbage. They're just as bad as used car salesmen.

I disagree - I think there are a large number of TREK fans out there who miss TOS and TOS crewed movies because they were a touchstone to their younger days - they would come home from school and watch the reruns before dinner and love the interaction between Bones, Spock and Kirk; they would wait for the closing scene on the bridge for the funny closing line at Spock's expense; or the witty line followed by fanfare and the Ent flying off into the starfield.

TNG and the rest never quite captured that sort of magic, i was just different. So now people hear that the TREK of their youth is coming back AND THEY ARE EXCITED. They want to see the characters (not actors) that they know and love, feel the magic between them again...99.999999% of people could care less about what the ship looks like, or the bridge or whether or not Kirk met Pike before or not. They want to see Kirk boldly going, Spock at his side and McCoy offering wise counsel in his sarcastic way. Throw in a dash of familiar TREK items - hot green chicks, Vulcans and Romulans and voia - good entertainment.
