I guess if you don't follow movie news then its new to you. I saw an ad over the weekend during football, not sure where else they might have played some Max Payne ads.

One aired during Voyager today.

Just wanted to add in it seems like there has been even more exposure. I just saw a promo on Sci-Fi.

Mark Wahlberg is hardly a pop star anymore. Where have you been for the last 15 years? This is his 20th film or something, most people have forgotten he ever made a record

Not offended. But if one is going to make a statement like that then those are fair questions to ask.

Agreed, I love Max Payne but it's not comparable to Watchmen, there are much better videogames out there from a thematic standpoint. It did have some cool meta-bits thrown in there that broke away from the wonderfully cheesy hardcore noir aesthetic, but nothing on the level of even say, Metal Gear Solid. (Note I'm referring to MGS' themes and meta-game references, not necessarily the plot, Max Payne had a much better story).

I don't believe gaming has had its "Watchmen" yet, there are few videogames that I would consider art beyond their technical and design merits, but the medium is still quite young.

Is your age showing? I bet more people know him as an actor now. Of course, "Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch" has two of the worst names ever in the space of six words which I think are more infamous than his actual musical career.

Max Payne is to video games what the Watchmen is to comic books.

This question isn't for Thrall cause I believe that he believes this statement to be equatable. Its why he posted it afterall. I'm asking for multiple answers from gammers "is this equatable to you or seen that way in the gamming community?"

I haven't owned a game system since '97 and it was a Super Nintendo.

In terms of tone, mature story telling, and creating a rich cinematic experience it was quite well recived. It's graphics are terrible though. It retains a very fanatical cult following to this day. The second one, while not as popular, was so loved by fans that they created their own internet community creating new, downloadable levels. But I agree MGS is equal to it in that regard. As far as console games go anyway. I can't comment on PC games because I'm sure there are plenty that stack up.

The graphics were pretty cutting edge at the time. I wouldn't say they're terrible by todays standards, just simplistic.

I'm more surprised with Mila Kunis playing an assassin than Mark Wahlberg as the titular character.

He's a fairly decent dramatic actor but as an action hero, he really kinda sucks. I think I'll keep in mind the lesson I learned from Planet Of The Apes and stay away from this one.

I saw the second trailer on YouTube, and I am guardedly optimistic.

Mind you, I've been fooled before. Before I saw Doom, I purchased and read the novelization, by John Shirley. Somehow Shirley made that sow's ear read like a silk purse--so I saw the movie.

Needless to say, I should have stuck with the book.

Damn you, John Shirley.

I like both of those movies as well. I didn't even have issue with him in PotA, I had an overall distate for the movie as a whole. Then again I haven't seen it in about 10 years. Maybe I should resample it?
