Include William Shatner in Star Trek XI Petition

Sorry your first experience here got off to a bad start, destroyer. It happens a lot. The movie really is pretty much done, though. Has been for a while.

Hello everybody,

I am new to the forums here but have visited the site for many years. Just came up with this idea to get the Shat in ST:XI. Its a pretty good idea but the point is to show that it can be done. I don't realy care if it gets accepted or not. Just want to show that he can easily be resurrected and in the movie (ok, its still a cameo, but better than nothing).

Hope you like it - http://www.PetitionOnline.com/WSSTXI/petition.html

Sorry to be so blunt but, I really don't think anyone in hollywood reads pettitions let alone takes them seriously. I don't care one way or another, I can't take pettitions seriously anymore because everybody trots out the same one, and (Bring Shat Back), even though it's not going to happen because somebody on the internet made a pettition.

You know what, you 6 guys aren't the fan base. I am so sorry that I offended your sensibilties. Geez get over yourselves. Thanks for the big welcome to the foruims!:wtf:
Grow a pair or leave! This place gets rough sometimes and you just got your baptism by fire. You know what they say about opinions. This place is no different...

...and, welcome aboard.

Ah...PetitionOnline.com...the sure-fire way to not make your ideas and desires come to fruition.

Okay, you can disagree with destroyer1138's idea or purpose; you can point out where you think he may have made an incorrect assumption; you can critique his approach -- those are all well and good, and are part of discussion and debate -- but let's stay away from the sort of thing I've underlined in your post. There are more civil ways to put that idea and, unless it's your board, inviting someone to leave isn't really your call to make.

The welcome at the end was a nice touch, though. Let's see if he accepts.

A little late on this. Start a petition to put Shatner in XII.

It's not too late! Have the Shat don a TOS uniform, paste on some sideburns, and appear as a 3" tall figment of his former self's imagination, giving him sage advice from time to time.

Yup. It only allows people who have no clue as to what's already been discussed ad nauseum (Nemesis sucks, TATV sucks, etc) and spammers top open up threads that quickly get locked or ignored.

Eh, then they get locked or ignored; it's just the way it works. After all, it's not like the people who have been around a while never post stillborn topics or ask the same questions which have been asked, answered and ridiculed dozens of times before. (Remember when, every two weeks, like clockwork, somebody would "discover" the Nimoy "Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" vid or "Turkish Star Trek" all over again, as if they were brand-new? That went on for months! )

Humor. It is a difficult concept...

... or the goddamn Picard Song which just popped up again in General Trek.

He he now thats more like it!!!!:) WOW this is AWESOME!!! Apology accpeted and THANK YOU for the REAL WELCOME!!

No problem with differing opinions here, just as long tact is applied in the delivery (but maybe I should just get over myself too, for expecting that). I am truly sorry that I didn't consider the state of the Shat topic earlier, but I haven't exactly been checking out the forums here for quite some time. Been mostly hanging out at trekmovie.com, and the Shat thing is a bit more tolerated there. Again, my sincerest apologies.

What can I say , I can't let it go. I still want to see him resurrected and in StarFleet 1 last time. I want to see the Ent-D again, and I want a story that truly marries TNG and TOS. Being the original 2 Roddenberry creations, its just seems logical (sorry). To see the Shat and Stewart on screen together one more time would be "Glorious" :klingon:. Heading off to a refit Sovereign Class Enterprise D with a B4 that has actuallized Data's subroutines along with Kirk, Picard, and Spock to end the movie - Sick.

Why bother with this? First, I don't care if this idea makes it or not. I just want JJ and company to read about the idea and possibly become inspired to create something their own. I just want to show them that it can work. Second, this is a direct reply to Robert Orcci saying "never say never" on including him with a possible a cameo role. Admittedly, he did say that he didn think it likely, but...never say never. Here is the link - http://trekmovie.com/2008/06/16/orci-kurtzman-talk-why-chose-tos-prequel-shatner/

Yes, the idea assumes that at the end, Original Spock will return to the 24th century, but we DO know that Young and Old Spock meet in the 23rd century. I can't open up the clock and look inside to figure out how it works, JJ Has the keys. I can make an educated guess based on the facts that we know about the movie, but this is the best I could surmise.

Therin of Andor - I didn't reallize that they are legally bound to ignore the petition. If good word gets around, maybe JJ can hire someone to read it for him (yeah, I'm wishing for it)

Its a big Hail Mary, I know, but I think its very Kirkian of me:rolleyes: to hang in there til the last possible minute. I..must...hang-on! There is one shred of hope here. I didn't realize that generally, the level of quality for petitions was so low, but it seems some people have appreciated the effort put into this one. I really, really, appreciate those comments. I am hoping it may garner enough respect to be at least viewed by JJ and friends.

So thank you again for your insightful opinions and kind words. Be talking to guess later.

JJ's not legally bound to ignore a petition. He's legally bound to ignore "ideas" for Star Trek movies. Which you spelled out in your petition.

Because if a movie comes out that coincidentally tallies with some or all of your published ideas, it opens Paramount (and the screenwriters) to being sued (by you), or it opens Paramount (and the screenwriters) to accusations of plagiarism from people who read your "idea" and come to your defense.

Have you read the novel "Crossover?" While Kirk isn't in the story, it's set in the early 2370s onboard the E-D so it has Picard and crew interacting with Spock, Scotty, and McCoy. I have it on audiobook as read by Jonathon Frakes and it's fantastic. It would've made a much better movie than Generations.

destroyer
it might have helped that before posting you had read through some of the threads here and especially this one how far into production.,
as some have noted filming ended some time back and it is too late to do anything like you suggested.

but , then you say you hang out at trek movie com.. odd you didnt know filming had stopped.

shrug..

by the way if you want to see kirk bought back even though they are not part of normal canon some of the books by shatner and the reeves stevens were kirk is bought back to life are fun reading.

/minor tangent

Going to put in spoiler code just in case someone here hasn't read the book yet and might want to.

When the Romulans learn that Spock is among the captured Unificationists, there's this scene that's a fun homage to Spartacus when Spock steps forward to turn himself in, and then all the other unificationists step forward and say, "No I am Spock". So then the Romulan bad guys become confused as to which one of them is the real Spock, and they're not able to identify him.

Now as much as I liked that scene, I just couldn't buy it. There was nothing in the writing that indicated that Spock disguised himself, so it shouldn't have been hard to compare the photos of Spock to the prisoners. Also he's the only Half Vulcan / Half Human prisoner with a bunch of Romulan unificationists, so a DNA test should have quickly pointed him out.

Pookha - Yes I did know that filming already finished. That never stopped Geroge Lucas from filliming a couple of last minute scenes for ROTS with only a few months left before release. Robert Orcci doesn't seem to discount the possiblity, so why should anybody else. By him mentioning it, I ASS-umed that he wasn't worried about sqeezing in a scene or two before release. Also rememeber that they have another 6 months of time that they initially didn't anticipate. Got some time to kill? Film a Shatner scene!

The other thing I mentioned in my last post was that it didn't occur to me that Trekmovie is bit more tolerant of BBKer's like myself. I automatically ASS-umed (there I go again) that the same situation applied here.
