Include William Shatner in Star Trek XI Petition

Hello everybody,

I am new to the forums here but have visited the site for many years. Just came up with this idea to get the Shat in ST:XI. Its a pretty good idea but the point is to show that it can be done. I don't realy care if it gets accepted or not. Just want to show that he can easily be resurrected and in the movie (ok, its still a cameo, but better than nothing).

Hope you like it - http://www.PetitionOnline.com/WSSTXI/petition.html

The film's already been shot. Shoe-horning Shatner into the movie is a bad idea anyway, but it's also too late.

Hmmm.... no thanks.

As useless as online petitions are, you'll probably need more then one signature to have an impact.

Shatner's not in the movie, nor could he sensibly have been in the movie. Nor is it still possible to put him in. Time to let go.

I'd sign a petition to ban people from making useless petitions like this one.

With respect and given such information as has been publicly aired, I'm willing to give the Bad Robot team the benefit of the doubt as to whether Shatner's Kirk belongs in the film, and would not be interested in an attempt to pressure them into including him. Good luck with your petition.

Neither are the folks who are dead set on Shatner being in this film whether he belongs in it or not.

That said, the quality of the thinking behind the petition letter is not worth disputing - it's a lot better thought-out and expressed than these petitions usually are (and bears a resemblance to a locally popular idea referred to as "Samuel T. Cogley's 'Boston Legal' Ending." It's complicated. But I digress). It's just way, way too late in the day to get behind this kind of effort.

Now that I think about it, if they had a shot of Shatner, Lincoln, and an aligator waving goodbye from the clouds at the end, that would be cool. :)

You realise, of course, that principal photography ended months ago?

Also, where you say, " At the end of the film, just before...", you are assuming that is how the film will end. You've read the script?

Do you also realise that publishing your proposal on the Internet in this way now means that JJ and Paramount are legally bound to ignore it?

Sorry to sound so negative.

Welcome to the forum, and I hope you have fun and interesting discussions here.

But this topic has been beaten to death, mutilated, set on fire and buried deep, deep in the ground many times before. There's no Shatner in Trek XI, for better or worse (imo for the better), just let it go.

I agree with this exactly, and I'm sorry if my response offended. I only meant it jokingly, but we all know those things don't always translate well online. This subject has already been done to death here, which is why you got such a tepid response. It's obvious you put a lot of thought in it though, and I admit I did like the idea of the Enterprise-D being restored in the newly altered timeline. ;) No way it'd happen though, but I liked that aspect of it nonetheless.

I wouldn't take it personally, destroyer1138. I very nearly gave a glib answer myself - but I didn't think it was fair as you are new here.

I suppose its only because we've discussed this, and discussed this, and discussed this for the last two years, and we passed through into the acceptance stage some time ago.

Regardless of whether we want him in the movie or not (and I tend to fall into the "would have been nice but he wanted the script to revolve around him and he only seems to do cameos for an extortionate amount of money" category), I just don't think it's going to happen. Most people around here tend to agree with that.

Don't judge us too harshly. :techman:

Hi welcome aboard,destroyer1138!

Believe me where not always like this with newcomers, but we do disagree at times. It's human nature I guess. I hate to be part of the chorus, but I DO NOT think it's necessary to include Shatner's character in ST:XI. I can numerous reasons why.

BTW: I love TOS,TNG,and DS9.
