My journey in Deep Space

"Q-Less"

"Q and Vash arrive on Deep Space Nine and trouble immediately commences which almost destroys the station. Everyone suspects Q, but it's actually Vash, and an artifact she took from an alien culture, who's the culprit."

Whats a new Star Trek series without a visit from Q? At least he wasn't the source of the problems on the station and he had some fun scenes with Sisko. "You hit me. Picard never hit me."

First off..I'm JEALOUS OF YOU!!! and now time for my speech to DS9 Newbies.

DS9 is one of the best tv shows ever made PERIOD! Not just Sci Fi show, tv-show in general, it's just really really good. BUT!

But.. the first season and the 2nd DS9 never really found its niche, think Babylon 5's first and half 2nd season...

DS9 tried to be too much of a TNG on a space station at first but still it's utterly utterly important you watch it all and in order.

By the end of season 2 you will start to like the show a lot, the final episode is AMAZING, and from season 3-4 and forward...wow the show is just amazing. Trust me, and again..I'm jealous.

DS9 is only slightly slightly worse than B5

Haha. Thanks, I got a long road ahead of me but its sure to be a fun one. People keep warning me about the 1st and 2nd season but I really have no problem with it trying to be TNG on a space station, especially when I know it eventually goes away from that formula.

After i finish the series I'm going to see if I still have some stamina left and I'm going to hit the post DS9 novels.

"Dax"

"Jadzia Dax is arrested by the Klystron for a crime committed by Curzon Dax, her previous host. Though the Klystron plan to hold Jadzia responsible for the crime of which Curzon is accused - treason and murder - new evidence comes to light which exonerates the Trill."

The episode was good but the ending seemed like a cop out. Instead of answering the more interesting question on whether Jadzia was a different person than Curzon, they just dropped the charges instead.

I just don't get what people think is wrong with the first year of Babylon 5.

I thought The Gathering was just a little better than OK the first time I saw it. But I was totally hooked once I watched Soul Hunter. DS9 is great by TV sci-fi standards B5 more like what I expect in very good SF literature.

We can never have enough good SF shows. We have to decide how to use the tech to mold this society in real space.

I'm rewatching DS9 season 2 now for the first time in years. To my surprise, I just realized something-----their name-dropping of the Dominion everywhere is *exactly* the same "arc-style" as the new Doctor Who uses. Funny that.

Unfortunately nuWho seems to be better at the lead-up than the payoff, most of the time.

"The Passenger"

"Kira and Bashir beam onto a disabled ship and attempt to save the life of a prisoner there. The guard tells Bashir that the prisoner murdered to prolong his own life, and she has been pursuing him for years. When chaos erupts on the station, Dax discovers that the "dead" alien has possessed Bashir."

Overall a very average episode. I enjoyed Bashir's extreme cockiness at the beginning of the episode. Odo also had some good moments when he was clashing with Starfleet security.

For me, this episode starts off with an interesting premise, and decent acting, but fizzles with the actual execution of the mind transfer idea, and wooden performances by Farrell, Sidding and Brooks.

How can Odo be an effective security officer without using a phaser?

Odo isn't wearing real clothes. They are part of his body. Carrying a phaser would interfere with his shape shifting. What would you think if you saw a rat carrying a phaser? LOL
And yet he had a communicator.
Only because the fabric Odo produces mimics real fabric, to which a communicator can be attached. Of course, it never falls to the floor when he shape shifts. Curious.

I always wondered what happened to Lt. Primmon. He's around for two episodes, then suddenly gone with no explanation; only to have the entire "Odo objects to a Starfleet counterpart" storyline repeated a few years later.

I just noticed that there was a similar thread to this in the TNG forum. If anyone wishes to join me in this journey they should post in this thread. I would be thrilled if this became a team effort.

"Move Along Home"

"A race called the Waddi, which like games, lead the crew of Deep Space Nine on a complicated but ultimately harmless trip through a maze which Quark later makes plans to buy."

A sci-fi concept that I've felt I've already seen enough of. My favorite scene was with Sisko (drunk?) at Quark's, trying to remember that Starfleet officers name. So far Sisko is my favorite character on the show with Odo coming in a strong second.

"
Primmin was presumably only on DS9 to oversee the deuridium shipment, and was still present for the Wadi incident only because he was waiting for transport to his next assignment. At any rate, he does not appear after "Move Along Home" and is never mentioned again, although he does appear in the DS9 novel The Big Game." - Memory Alpha

Lt George Primmin

I had assumed that clashing with Odo was getting old fast, and the case was made that Odo could be trusted, and was clearly more competent in the environs of DS9.

DS9 is small??? Its 1 mile wide!! I don't think that's small by anyone's standard.

In comparison to B5 ships, ST ships seem a lot more advanced. Earth ships in particular are lumbering giants with little bang for the buck. A Galaxy class ship seems packed with high tech equipment in a smaller space, with artifical gravity and advanced features.

I'm as big of a fan of DS9 as one can be... but I also know my Babylon 5. And you're quite wrong.

1) DS9 is tiny, tiny, tiny compared to Babylon 5, and even many other stations in the Trek universe. Sure it has a decent circumference, but its structure is very thin. Think branches on a tree limb; Just because the limb is long and full doesn't mean you can make a table out of it.

2) Babylon 5 was much more realistic as far as offensive/defensive capability. At first glance, Earth ships in Babylon 5 seem cumbersome compared to Starfleet vessels. But that's only because they lack toys like shields (which I still think are a silly concept) and artificial gravity, which in all likelihood will be one of the final things we master as far as space travel.

In Babylon 5, Earth is extremely militaristic. And the areas of advancement in starship technology reflect that.

An Earth Alliance Omega Class, while seemingly inferior to something as glamourous as a Galaxy Class from Starfleet, packs *significantly* more firepower and armor.

As I said, on the whole it's very difficult to compare Earth Alliance ships to Starfleet ships. But when comparing battle capability specifically, there's no contest; Earth Alliance by a mile.

"The Nagus"

"The leader of the Ferengi, the Grand Nagus, visits the station to check up on Quark's profits and to test his son's worthiness to succeed him. Quark passes with flying colors; the heir apparent does not."

Now I understand that people get a little tired of Ferengi episodes, however I did enjoy it. The episode was about the characters more than it was about the problem. So far this season isn't nearly as bad as everyone seemed to be telling me.
