Knight Rider 2008

Any news/rumors about the KR TV show that's coming out this season? All I've seen is a brief article that The Hoff has his panties in a bunch about his ideas being ignored and he won't have anything to do with the show and as such claims it will fail without his involvement.

Even if it was true, he was in the pilot thus eliminating the need to ever see him again.

And I'm sure all of his ideas probably would have involved him making a cameo, which probably isn't the best idea when you're trying to make a TV show about the NEW adventures of KITT and co.

I'm expecting a pretty by-the-book continuation of the pilot movie, did that entire cast sign on for the series?

Would people around here prefer an episodic treatment like the original or an arc-based season like Heroes or Lost?

I was watching AMERICA's GOT TALENT and I was remarking to myself about how much Hasselhoff looks like Hal Jordan. They should do a LANTERN movie with him as Parallax..

As for him being in it? Its all about money..I think he'll be in it..

I'd prefer something more like what they do on Doctor Who, where the episodes are all standalone or two-parters (and can be enjoyed as such), but there's an overarching plot thread that ties the season together.

X2. I hate (too many) stand-alone episodes in one season. Something a-la what Manny Cotto did for Season 4 of Enterprise would be cool. Lots of mini-arcs.

I think I read somewhere that the new showrunner for the Knight Rider series is ignoring a lot of the stuff in the two-hour tv movie.

Which is fine, because there was a lot in that TVM that was crap. But the foundation (no pun intended) was there for them to take the pilot and build it into something more solid.

At least one change has been mentioned in The Hollywood Reporter: Paul Campbell (Billy Keikeya on BSG) will be playing the head research tech guy at Knight Industries.

God, this is hilarious... some quotes from the Knight Rider Online discussion board about the new show. These people sound more hysterical than some of the doomsayers in the Trek XI forum. A few choice examples:

They might as well call it Snake Rider or Cobra Racer or better yet VipRider. Hell let's just change Knight Industries to Shelby Industries while we're at it! Then we can replace Mike Traceur with Snake Plisskin! He's already got a Shelbyesque cobra tattoo and everyone thinks he should be dead anyhow.... LONG LIVE THE HORSEHEAD ERA!

This whole KR with the snake head logo is going to make me spew. I don't mind the Mustang as KI3T, I didn't mind having "Ford" shoved in my face throughout the 1hr 20 minute commercial that was the pilot (only watched it all the way through once!). I agree with VK, they should change the name to "Ford Rider" or "Snake Rider" and stop tarnishing KNIGHT RIDER!! It's a knight, not a snake, I repeat...a knight, NOT a snake! Do you bozos at NBC want to lose the majority of the original fan base? Your turd of a pilot would have sunk faster than a mobster wearing cement boots in a lake if it wasn't for the fans of the original

Im getting worried they`re gonna turn this show into a big fat joke.
And my favorite:

If it wasnt for the fans keeping KR alive there would`nt even be a new series or movie coming out, I dont think they even care about us IMO, that`ll be their downfall and if they do get this wrong may they all get run over buy a thousand talking Trans Ams.

- Two new characters working for Knight Industries, named Billy and Zoe, will enter the fold.

We were very fortunate to get some time with David Bartis today and ask few quick questions!

We were told that "things are going really well" from the production offices of the new Knight Rider series. They "are scheduled to start production on the series on June 23rd", in LA (not Vancouver which was briefly rumored last week).

Working with Gary Scott Thompson "has been fantastic" and has "continued to elevate the show in every department"! Additionally they are "doing some designing of the car to make it even cooler" as well as "adding some new cast" to the mix.

We've also been told that they will be at Comicon in San Diego in July. And so we will, to cover it!

New Casting
New Knight Rider and Terminator Castings
Source: The Hollywood Reporter June 17, 2008

The Hollywood Reporter says Paul Campbell has joined NBC's new action series "Knight Rider," Leven Rambin is in talks to come on board Fox's "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and Sophina Brown has been added to CBS' "Numbers."

On "Knight Rider," Campbell ("Battlestar Galactica") will play the head research tech at Knight Industries.

On "Terminator," Rambin ("All My Children") will play the teenage Becky, a potential love interest for John Connor (Thomas Dekker).

And on "Numbers," Brown ("Shark") will play Nikki Donat, an ex-LAPD officer and full-blown adrenaline junkie who joins the Los Angeles FBI team as a junior agent.

Wow, that didn't take long. They didn't tap the well of "Knight" puns on the original series until near the end of the first season with "Knight Moves" (which did, I believe, feature the Bob Seger song it took its title from).

eta: And there was a second season episode with the title "A Knight in Shining Armor," so not only have they tapped the well already, they're recycling titles!

I liked the movie pilot well-enough but the show needs some tweaking before series. Mostly in characterization of KITT and his "abilities." The morphing bit should go/be toned down and changed back to the mollecuarly bonded shell.

I mean, the new KITT is vulnerable when powered down. How stupid is that?!

AICN had some info from the guy in charge of the series.

My favorite line... "I'm the guy who wrote The Fast and the Furious, I have a reputation"

Ugh.

This fills me with great fear.

I mean, I LIKED The Fast and the Furious but, come on, high-art it is not.

Neither was the original Knight Rider. Neither was anything else Glen Larson created, for that matter. So Gary Scott Thompson sounds perfect! :techman:

Remember too that the show runner (and the guy writing the first ep) was also the Executive Producer of Las Vegas. He's already said he plans to wrap up that show on Knight Rider.
