Knight Rider 2008

in a piece in this month's SFX, the new bloke in charge says the morphing will 'go further' and that there will be a new 'attack mode'. the main idea being what can KITT do that your car can't?

I mean, I LIKED The Fast and the Furious but, come on, high-art it is not.
Neither was the original KR (or any of its spin-offs come to think of it). I think he's the perfect choice. He knows how to handle car action scenes and he knows the elements that fit together to make a testosterone based ride. I'm really hoping with him onboard the action gets ramped up while having the movie's writer onboard help keeps it on track as being a true sequel to the original series.

Well, the thing is a show much like the original Knight Rider wouldn't work in today's market. And, I think, a good Knight Rider should be darker, "more serious" and much more keeping in tone with the opening narration the original had. "A shadowy flight into a world that does not exsist with criminals who operate above the law."

And not, you know, Suzie Singlemother and the outlaw evil biker gang of ex-husbands and dead-beat dads trying to knock over her coffee shop.

Not that there isn't room for that storyline. The premise lends itself to a wide variety of stories... which the original show barely bothered to try and tell.

I don't think the show needs to necessarily be "darker" - it can be, certainly, but it doesn't NEED to be. If they want to make a light-hearted adventure show with lots of wisecracks and car chases, so be it - but it still has to be good. The original show was just so utterly formulaic... it's saving grace really was KITT and Michael themselves.

Oh definitely. I'm really not in the mood to watch a show that only deals with a bunch of small town hicks going after KITT week after week b/c he's shiny and purty while Mike consoles a single mom with the cutesie kid. However, the movie did set up a story arc involving Prometheus and made the scope of the story wider than just being confined in US borders. I hope they follow up on this and make this more about working against whoever hired the mercenaries in the movie as well as showing KITT's whiz bang abilities.

TKR set up a story arc as well; however, we know what a complete turd that show was. I swear, the only *decent* episode was the one that featured KRO, while the only vehicle that really had any abilities that we was the The Beast.

Here's a thought -- since there are a lot of people here who defend the overused crutch of time travel in Star Trek (being used once again in Trek XI), does anyone here think time travel could work in the new version of KR?

Think about it: Mike Tracer and K.I.T.T are accelerating at a high rate of speed to avert a potential nuclear explosion. While morphing into attack mode, radiation from the explosion reacts with K.I.T.T's shielding, transporting him back to the year 1985. Imagine his meeting Michael Knight, learning the art of Hoff Fu

The 2 hour movie was ok but it dragged in a lot of spots. The old show was campy, this was just dreary. They'll have to tweak it quite a bit before I become a regular watcher of it this fall.

I honestly though this was on already and got cancelled, wonder why the hell I thought that. Hopefully its decent.

It only had the 2-hour back-door pilot movie which did well enough to warrant a series the following fall - this fall.

Yeah, one thing I don't want is "24 With a Car" or "Carminator: The Series". Not that I don't like those shows, but there's already enough of that on TV.

I don't want goof-ball, but I don't want torture scenes, and I do want clever banter and some great action.

I will agree with this, and personally I think being written in the midst of the writer's strike did not help. Had the script been given at least another pass I'm sure it could've been cleaned up a lot.

Agreed. I think KR has a very basic formula. Take these ingredients:

1) Car stunts
2) Gadgets/car features
3) Witty banter between Mike and KITT
4) Humor
5) Mystery
6) Story arc
7) Well choreographed fight scenes

Mix'em up in the right amounts and you have good KR. Let's hope they get it right. :)
