Hockey Talk - 2007-2008 Season

As someone who no longer has a pony in this race I've got to say that both teams did remarkably well and both of them deserve the cup. I'm hoping that the Pens win game 6 if only to bring it to a barn burner of a seventh game.

Now I need you folks' opinion. You know the hockey prediction thread, we'll I've added up the conference quarters, semis and finals and I've got three ties. One of the ties is easily broken since the two people only participated in the quarters so I'll just use the tie-breaker of that round which is the first person who posted.

Another tie-breaker will solve itself if the Pens win but if not, I've got two people who will have predicted the same X number of winning teams off by the same Y number of games. One person participated once, the other at every single stage; who should be placed higher: the one who showed up more often or the one who, when he showed up, did tremendously well?

The third tie had both people participate at all four stages and made the exact same prediction for the Stanley Cup finals and I can't figure a tiebreaker for this situation.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider people that didn't predict every single round. So yeah, if two people have the same % the person that predicted more rounds is IMO the winner. As for the people that are tied, well nothing wrong with that.

I swear .... the last 30 seconds of a hockey match when the difference is 1 goal or none, are among the most nerve-wracking in sports. That last shot tonigh.... it looked like one inch more to the right, and the game is tied as time runs out.

Congrats to the Red Wings!

Congrats to the Red Wings!

Indeed

This was a great series. Pittsburgh wouldn't quit and they deserve all the credit in the world. What a great young team that is and they are going to be a force for years to come. Still, congrats Red Wings for winning the Stanley Cup.

...and in the best possible way! Way to go Wings!!! This, ladies and gentlemen, is why Detroit is and always shall be HOCKEYTOWN! :D

all the credit to the wings, they're a great team, but why do I feel like Darth Vader let Luke get turned to the Dark Side?

Pittsburgh didn't give up, Detroit was just that much better.

Although on replay, the last shot wouldn't have counted - the clock was at 0:00 and the puck has to be all the way across the line before time runs out

Damn. Out-of-town, so couldn't watch it. Sucks that we lost, but what a ride. Kudos to Detroit for the fun.

I gotta hand it to Pittsburgh - it was neck-and-neck right to the bitter end. That last shot could have gone either way. Detroit's 3rd goal was just dumb luck.

What an awesome series. Well done to the Pens. They're going to be a major force for a long time. Congrats to the Wings. There's a reason why they are the best team in hockey.

Bring on 08/09! :D

I rooted for the Red Wings but, now that they've won, I feel dirty for doing so. I hate it when I don't like either team in the finals.

The Wings won!!! Yes, it was pure luck, but as long as we get the win in the clinching game who cares? :p Good series to the Pens though, if they can keep that nucleus together they'll be a huge force. Crosby is younger than me and Fleury has me beat by a year. Lucky bastards.

I'm very happy that the Red Wings won. :techman:
It was a wonderful pre-birthday present. I'm sure that Detroit is celebrating tonight, which is always better than the usual crime.
The last 30 seconds of the game were a real nail-biter. Which makes the victory even more enjoyable.

I was only rooting for Nicklas Lidstrom and I am very glad that he has won another Lord Stanley.

Not exactly what I was hoping for, but going to the game where the cup is awarded is one hell of a consolation prize. I took a few cell phone pics, and I'll post them here later if they turned out decent.

I'm a bit disappointed in a few of the fans there, though. Too many Pens fans booed the awarding of the Cup. Fortunately, most were pretty good about it, but I really hated the booing during the awarding of the Stanley Cup. Show some damn respect.

And bafflingly, many of the Detroit fans were as disinterested in watching their team hoist the Cup as the Pittsburgh fans. They were quickly filing out with everybody else. What the hell!? :wtf:
