Hockey Talk - 2007-2008 Season

“For the next 20 minutes, you will sit in silence while I tell you why the Detroit Red Wings are the greatest franchise in the history of professional sports.”

-Dr. Cox, "Scrubs"

:)

^ Isn't it going to be more like 120 minutes soon?

It's certainly beginning to look like this series could be similar to the Pens' 5-game loss to Ottawa in the first round last year; a signal that the Penguins will need to turn it up another level next year.

Not giving up on them yet, though! :techman:

It is beginning to look like the 83 Oilers for Pittsburgh. On the cusp (they made it to the final) but not yet ready for primetime. While I'd really like to see the Habs win next year to cap off their 100th anniversary, as a secondary outcome, I wouldn't mind a re-match of this year to see if the (expected) defeat in the final will have forged a stronger team in Pittsburgh. But it isn't over yet.

Well, I don't know if I'll get to use Game 6 (even if it is played), but at least I've got Game 3.

It may look bad at the moment, but just think back to 2 or 3 years ago. The team was hopeless, doomed to move, and hadn't made the playoffs in years. And now... they're in the frelling Cup finals and in Pittsburgh for years to come. Damn.

Their defeat last year in the first round did.

I'm somewhat underwhelmed by this year's playoffs - most series seem to be finishing in 4 or 5 games.

I'm glad Pittsburgh won. It at least extends the series an extra game. Hopefully they can tie up the series on Saturday in Game 4.

^ That would be nice, yeah.

I just want to see something good in this series. So far it hasn't started that great and for the sake of just being a hockey fan, there is nothing better than a game 6 or 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The last few years have actually been quite good so hopefully the streak continues.

Good to see the Pens back in fighting form.

For all those who insult the loyalty of Pens fans:
At least OUR arena was full, unlike a certain "Hockeytown" currently playing in the Stanley Cup finals.

(Just kidding. I like Detroit fans. The ones we've had in Pittsburgh have been pretty fun and good natured. )

Are there not clauses in contracts that prohibit players from riding motrocycle?

I'm just stunned. Thoughts and prayers to his family as well.

True. But IIRC, the 82 Oilers suffered that kind of opening round defeat to LA (not a crushing defeat, but an unexpected one) and then the 83 Oilers lost in the final to the veteran Isles before going on to establishing the last true hockey dynasty (four of five, five of seven).

I'm not counting Pittsburgh out. But even a defeat should not be too discouraging as the fundamentals in Pittsburgh are more solid than they were in Tampa and Carolina (two other teams that rose swiftly through the ranks)--Pittsburgh won't emulate them after their Cup Final appearances.

Just found out about this myself and am shocked...what a sad, horrible ordeal for that family to go through, Luc was only 21 years old. He was set to be the Canucks fourth or fifth defensemen next season.

Tragic indeed. Rest in peace, Luc.

Good news, however - Red Wings beat the Penguins in game 4, 2-1! Hockeytown's 11th Stanley Cup is now only one win away. Go Wings!

Detroit might need to give up the Hockeytown title if they can't fill their arena for a potential Cup clinching game
