If Russia has its way, Evgeni Malkin won't be a Penguin in the fall.
According to the Toronto Star, teams in Russia's pro hockey league are willing to pay Malkin $12.5 million a year tax free to come home and play.
A high-ranking executive in the Russian league told the Star a $12.5 million offer to Malkin "is not crazy," but that "it's on the edge of crazy."
But Malkin's agent, J.P. Barry, told Toronto's Globe and Mail that he has not received any offers and that Malkin is not interested in going home.
"He's been focused, since Day 1, on doing an extension with the Penguins," Barry said. "We've had discussions with them, since the end of the playoffs, on a framework and expect to have something done with the team early in July."
