I think the one place where Kurtzman Trek has really thrived is in casting. I’m not sure there is an actor across them where I didn’t enjoy their performances*.

*Well, I really didn’t enjoy the TNG actors coming back, but I can’t really blame Kurtzman for the casting there. Kinda something he was stuck with.

Agreed. The casting directors have been a highlight amongst the crew.

He should have recast Worf just to really fuck with people 😁

He needs to age ten years and put on about 15 pounds of muscle. Total miscast IMO, and another irritant in that we didn't need another TOS character to show up on Pike's Enterprise. I'm still mourning for Hemmer.
I like Quinn as Scotty and it's ironic that I got blasted for suggesting that maybe Montalban was cast too old as Khan a day or so ago and now the actor age against character age has come up again.

It's not Quinn's age that bothers me but the fact they write the character terribly. Scott is supposed to be 40 years old. He should not be having some petty transporter feud (the basis for the puppet episode) with that school rival or whatever. A 40 year old in the role would've shown how even more absurd the whole storyline was.

Quinn's a fine actor as Scotty but there's only so much you can do when the writing for your character is bordering on childish.

Scotty probably drinks A LOT in the next 10 years (prematurely aging him) - and by TOS S2 By Any Other Name can REALLY hold his liquor. ;)

I'm against all alcohol, but even I might see how an engineer could get depressed after seeing his beloved SNW ship get refit into a 1960s cardboard aesthetic.

Brian Brophy was still too young for Maddox who should be at minimum 83 in Picard (remember he vetoed Data's 2341 Academy application)

Patrick's X-Men buddy Ian McKellen would've been perfect for Bruce Maddox, just the right age. :p

Yeah Scotty hated that version/era of the 1701 oh, wait... :

Clearly there is going to be an episode next season where Scotty gets stuck somewhere that 10 years passes for him, but only a week passes for everyone else. Bam! Older wise Scotty just in time for Kirk to take over the Enterprise.

That makes no sense. People hold onto rivalries and grudges their entire lives. We've seen it in Star Trek before as Sisko's school rivalry with Solok for example.
