I watched a video with Ryan George and a host discussing why Star Wars has become stale and passe (they exempted "Andor").*
It occurred to me that much of what they said applies well to Trek.
In essence, "Why do we care what happens?"
If Star Trek has any long-term future in movies and TV, it'll be because new viewers watch new content and are excited by what they see in the first hour, as they watch it.
They have to get emotionally invested in the actions and feelings of the characters they see in front of them, and care about what's happening to them right now.
"What ten classic episodes would you show a new viewer to get them into Trek?" is the wrong question. It doesn't matter.**
IMO, SNW - and to a much lesser extent, SFA - comes closer to meeting that standard than most post-80s Trek content, which relies heavily on engagement with the specifics of the fictional milieu and its history.
The entire franchise was built on a foundation of one-hour stand-alone stories, usually with immediate high stakes.
And they changed whatever they had to, made up whatever worked and threw out what didn't, as they went along.
Somewhere after BOBW, "B" story became "A" story, and eventually "A" stories were consigned to Lego blocks building multi-episode and season-long arcs.
Characters were static or evolved glacially.
I mean, I'm down for a ten-episode season-long arc if an apparently main character is killed without warning in the first hour and the others have to resolve that.
If It's Done Well.***
But that's not how most Trek meta-plots work.
They're built instead on ticking clocks and "we'll figure out the plot later" stories with promises that "Something big and bad will happen...eventually."
And as we go along, viewers are asked to give time to a taciturn middle-aged half-human/half-beardo ruminate over his career and the trauma of seeing a Space Navy ship blow up in his youth.
*Weird, for me. Other than Feral Historian, most everyone who chatters about Trek on YouTube are annoying bloviators looking for some pennies...

I saw an article today that said that the cast was on a panel at a big convention and previewed Season Two for the audience.
"... Season 2 during the San Diego Comic-Con panel, announcing that the upcoming sophomore run will also be the show's final season. Newcomer Ruaridh Aldington was introduced as a series regular playing Keats, a hunted alien..."
well according to wikipedia it says that star trek star fleet academy season 2 is coming in 2027
They're just guessing. However, it has been announced the cast is going to be at NYCC in October. There's no way that would happen if there were no plans to air the second season. We might even get an airdate announced there. Which, yes, likely will be in 2027.

I just rewatched Season 1, the experience is very different when watching away from the noise and the MAGA outrage and the angry old white men shouting at Trek.
Season 1 is pretty damn awesome.
I saw 3 episodes I didn't much care for, have now watched only twice.
Most of the rest, several times, with KDD at least 5 times.
Rubincon naturally wraps up season 1 and the rumour is that Season 2 ends on an cliffhanger which is unresolved - any truth in this.??? It would seem that ending on Season 1 might be considered a better choice by the studio.....

An unfounded worry. Season 2 will air, we'll likely get a trailer and maybe even a premiere date at NYCC next month. Which is something else to consider, they wouldn't bother with an NYCC panel for this show if there were no plans to air the second season.

Define "better"? They'd throw a bunch of money down the drain, and if they'd be trying to avoid a fan outcry they'd just be getting a different outcry.
It'll just be like Farscape, Alien Nation, or Sliders where it ends on a cliffhanger due to cancellation. And maybe there's even an outside chance that, like those shows, it comes back to resolve it somehow.
Now and Again and the Invisible Man never got resolution.
Yeah, certainly no guarantees.
Though I guess those are just further examples of shows that aired their cliffhanger finales.
I haven't bothered to sort out which ones had announced cancellations beforehand, which admittedly is a big factor in making the comparison useful. Farscape certainly qualifies. They even added a message to the cliffhanger thanking the fans.
But "air" implies airwaves, be on regular TV.
Certain episodes have been shown on CBS, including Disco S1 Ep 1
In this case, I believe the OP question was was the second season going to be made available for viewing and not written off for tax purposes.
Im not sure why people assume it would be written off for tax purposes.
You've spent $10 making something. If you don't think it's worth more investment, thats fine. If you are going to invest more, thats fine. But the $10 you already spent is a write off for tax purposes regardless of which path you choose.
