Indeed. I confess I never liked the original BSG, so I vastly prefered the reboot.

It was bleak as hell, but, at its best, very powerful.

I watched the original BSG later and respect what it did, but the reboot is where I'm at.

And if I had to be honest there are moments where I have to sit and think "Do I like BSG reboot more than Trek?"

It's not a question I'm prepared to answer to until my deathbed. But... it's a question I ponder.

Funny. My disappointment in SNW has led me to rewatch Battlestar (Ron Moore’s cut). Far far far better than what we are getting.

Different shows.

Much like Game of Thrones it was hard to like any of the BSG characters by the end. Star Trek should do that.

To me almost everything about nuBSG is superior to the old, except the music and the nostalgia goggles. The original BSG theme is up there with Goldsmith and Williams contributions to science fiction and fantasy soundtracks, and as skillfully-executed as the new BSG was it just never came close to capturing my imagination. Sometimes the cheesier and simpler program or film is the one with the greater rewatch value.

Oh, they could most certainly stretch out Year One to more than one streaming season. Just because one can does not mean one should, but that would be absolutely doable. Remember one season of the original show could be upwards of 24 episodes; the first season was almost thirty.

Finally saw it. I'm usually willing to give SNW a chance but this was the worst episode of the entire show for me.
The biggest problem was the soap opera premise; it could have been funny but it was just boring.
The acting was ok, the whole Trelane business I could have done without.

I needed a sci fi fix after SNW and it’s in the Paramount app. Finishing season 2 on the rerun and it’s wonderfully done - even if you don’t like the tone. Actual acting not puppetry. Yes, slows a lot after they (spoiler) escape New Caprica and yes the PLAN was not planned out.

They say some really fun things about “bright shiny futures” that would seem to be talking to the Trek franchise big time.

I saw Ron M at the STLV convention and he discussed the development of For All Mankind in some detail. God I hope he is running the franchise soon.

True. They could squeeze any number of episodes/seasons between SNW and TOS.

IIRC, some SNW sets are in storage, so that’s another problem “solved.”

Maybe they've beaten me into submission but... I enjoyed that! A LOT. This was better than last week's "serious" episode. And honestly, compared to last week Chapel and M'Benga weren't THAT different.

First: This is the most Pike-centric episode in ages. And the most Pike-centric with a dynamic, positive, problem-solving Pike in even longer! This was the Pike who took my heart and whispered "Maybe Kirk isn't your favorite captain anymore?" I haven't seen him in years!

And, in another dumb, gimmicky, played for laughs episode that is becoming the rule rather than the exception: They broke my heart. There is real emotion in this episode.

And She Who Is My Wife is a Days of Our Lives fan so she lost it over the guest star. And pointed out that John de Lancie was on DoOL as well. AND then they gave Deidre Hall an actual scene at the end!

Oh! I miss season one!

Not that SNW is exactly continuity friendly, but if we're assuming the Q, er Trelane is non-linear, then for him this is probably AFTER Squire of Gothos. (The whole Gorn nonsense still makes no sense.)

It is older Trelane. TOS has already happened from his perspective, and him taunting Spock in these episodes is him getting back at the Vulcan for all the trouble he caused him on Gothos.

BSG did the 'lost in space' stuff a million times better than Voyager, and the 9/11 stuff a thousand times better than the Xindi arc in ENT.

Then you had SG-1 which did 'space adventure of the week' better than either of those two Trek shows, throw in a couple of dogshit-tier TNG movies and Trek has been second rate ever since, unfortunately.

Berman/Braga Trek did not evolve to compete, and NuTrek has done nothing to rehabilitate the franchise.
