It sounds like she's there mainly to research how the crew behaves in crisis, not counsel to crew members about bereavement, daddy issues or love lives.

It is never established onscreen when Chekov joined the crew (as opposed to Koenig joining the cast). We can only deduce that it was after "Mudd's Women" (since he doesn't recognize Mudd later on) but before "Space Seed" (since Khan does recognize him in the movie).

Yet, oddly enough, Sulu and Chekov share a knowing smile when Kirk pulls the Corbomite Maneuver again at the end of "The Deadly Years."

But you can easily rationalize that as saying that someone told Chekov about the Balok adventure after he came aboard.

This one was fun I enjoyed the melodrama of it, Judge Q getting into it and the very real emotional exploration of Pike after last season adding more weight and meaning to the finale.

I also called it with the "Sybok" casting.

Funny Soap parody but don’t know how to feel about it being an actual Star Trek episode.

I agree with others that the Pike scene at the end was good. The therapist’s line about mourning reminded me of Frasier’s comments to the caller Claire in the episode The Good Son.

I think this and the muppet episode would have landed better if they were shorter.

I’m a big Squire of Gothos fan so I dislike them using trelane.

Thought Pike was super callous about Spock in this episode. Really did not seem to care that he was injured

I work in the field. I'm aware psychiatrists can do talk therapy too. I work with a psychiatrist and they see some clients only for meds, some for both.

A counselor on a TOS ship makes sense to me.

Apologies, I didn't mean that having a counselor at all would not make sense, only that it seemed to be McCoy's job. There were plenty of TOS episodes where, if they had a counselor, they should have used them.

McCoy is a main character. Additional medical personnel is strictly Needs of the Plot. Like M’Benga and Noel.

OMG! I remember his character, but I had no idea that was DeLancie!

I think it showed us that she wanted an idealised version of Spock but not actual Spock. Someone more human, more risky and a bit sexier. She's a parallel for T'Pring here in that they both want an ideal Spock but the not the actual Spock.

This, definitely.

As someone who watched Days of Our Lives as a pre-teen, I got a real kick out of seeing all the soap opera tropes and Deidre Hall(!). The director really nailed the style too. Lots of things made me laugh out loud, especially Pike's reactions.

I also appreciated that this still moved many of the characters forward. Uhura's family issues, those beautiful scenes between M'Benga and Una and Erika, and finally(!) some emotional fallout from Pike's alternate life. Everyone did a great job, as usual, but Anson had me crying along with him.

Sybok as an Evil (but seductive!) Twin was perfect! Can I just state for the record that Ethan is ridiculously hot?

Plus, I'll watch Rhys Darby in anything.

Very enjoyable for me. Hubby liked it a little less because he thought the soap opera framing was unnecessary.

Which I have long thought was ridiculous. It's there for an opening hook, but it makes no sense that Kirk wouldn't piece together that the Vulcan Ambassador with the human wife weren't the parents of his first officer, the son of a Vulcan ambassador and human mother. It would be in his personnel file at the very least. Doesn't change your point, just sits there as a false hook at Kirk's expense

That assumes that other half-Vulcan, half-humans don't exist.
