box office

And they spent $300 million on marketing.

I guess I'll never understand that part of the current feature film business paradigm where they spent as much or more in marketing then it cost to make the film, yet somehow they always expect it to then turn a huge profit on taking what 50% of the Box Office Ticket price.

I mean given all the above, that means at $1 billion, the studio so far just about broken even and that's a high bar to set.

To me it appears most films (even when successful at the B.O. ) maybe break even with the theatrical run, but make real money off merchandising and licensing to Stresmers, PPV. Physical copy sales, etc. over the first few years of release.

IE - Great Box Office is good for driving licensing. merchadizing. etc.; but in a way it's a loss leader situation for the studio in most cases.

Curious what the box office will be with the unrated Ice Cream Man. It's a low budget horror with limited marketing.

I checked show times at my local theater, and they're all late night showings.

Yeah, I'm sure that's the reason...
I think one of the reasons the film flopped was because the director did market research and removed those scenes, but I'm sure this research was only focused on American youth. If they had done it worldwide, especially in Europe and Latin America, the results would have shown that this idea was wrong.

Any movie that depends upon nudity to get butts in the seats is not a movie worth watching.

One Night Only tanked because, while the trailer I watched in front of movies I went to see didn't sell it as anything other than a stupid, raunchy rom-com, learning the premise made it seem even more stupid.

The new film from Netflix Animation Studios will open wide globally in theaters on Nov. 5, 2027, before arriving on Netflix on Dec. 22. Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle international distribution for the theatrical release.
