box office

None of which disproves any of my points.

Well I did

Each movie made more than the previous one did (despite the performances of other superhero movies), they were all popular with the audience and the marketing for this one was good. There was no reason to expect a lesser performace than the previous one unless you just dont understand how opening weekends for established franchises work.

Making that statement at all is definitive proof you don't actually understand how opening weekends work.

At this point when will we peak? What will be considered negative return?

What if Secret wars makes 903 million in three days?

Entertainment outlet :Secret Wars is just behind Brand New Day by 3 million after the first weekend

Outlets will pounce on that and turn it into negative press

Between Brand New Day and The Odyssey, this past weekend was the single biggest box office take in North America ever.

Good day for Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jon Bernthal! :D

This is the breakout year we've been needing since covid. People are seeing movies at the theaters again. The theater gives people an experience they just can't get at home. Giant screen, excellent popcorn, all kinds of soda pop, frozen soda pop, all kinds of candy and other foods. Yeah it can get expensive but its fun to go out and there are free refills on pop and popcorn. You can't beat that. Im really relieved we are having such a great summer. Going to the movies was one of the highlights of my childhood and im still just as excited to go today. I think the theater going experience has just risen back from the brink..

Yeah, that's not why I go to the cinema. I never buy concessions and not just because they're expensive.

I go to the cinema to watch entertaining and sometimes excellent films, and if I'm really lucky, I get a great audience to go along with that experience.

I go for movie and the snacks. I hope the audience isnt annoying but I honestly don't pay them much mind. Much of the time im not even aware of anyone. Im too absorbed in the movie, looking at the details of the effects, sets etc. and I hate to say it absored in my snacks. Lol

Maybe a hot hand fallacy here? A hot streak isn’t the same as a long-term trend reversal.

And they spent $300 million on marketing.

I guess I'll never understand that part of the current feature film business paradigm where they spent as much or more in marketing then it cost to make the film, yet somehow they always expect it to then turn a huge profit on taking what 50% of the Box Office Ticket price.

I mean given all the above, that means at $1 billion, the studio so far just about broken even and that's a high bar to set.

To me it appears most films (even when successful at the B.O. ) maybe break even with the theatrical run, but make real money off merchandising and licensing to Stresmers, PPV. Physical copy sales, etc. over the first few years of release.

IE - Great Box Office is good for driving licensing. merchadizing. etc.; but in a way it's a loss leader situation for the studio in most cases.
