No surprise there. Spiderman has been one of the very few consistent franchises. Some have been weaker than others, but I can sit down and enjoy any of the movies that have come out since Spiderman 1. I can't say that for many others. The Tom Holland movies have all been good with the last one raking in huge box office despite the stench of other MCU products. So there was a lot of goodwill going in, along with good marketing which always leads to a huge opening weekend. From the reviews Ive seen from the general audience(98 percent on Rotten Tomatoes), this one will likely have long legs and it might very well come close to 2 billion at the box office.

No surprise? if these numbers hold Brand New Day could outperform Avengers Endgame, Spider-Man is incredibly popular but I don't think anyone expected this.

Following Sony's abysmal performance last summer and throughout this year, this film could be seen as a savior for Sony's film division at the box office. The latest installment in the Jumanji series, which has grossed $800-900 million per film, is being released on December 25th. In Türkiye, it will be released on January 22nd, 2027. While it will likely compete with Endgame and Dune 3, considering Dwayne Johnson's films since 2019 have been box office failures and Sony has been making all its films (including the Jumanji films) with budgets of $80-110 million in recent years (excluding the Spider-Man films), I think the film will only gross three to four times its budget.
The odyssey is doing great but it looks like Spidey is going to blow its numbers away. Pretty good summer for movies. Best year since covid ruined things ill wager.

Sorry, but that's nonsense.
The last movie did 1.9 billion because it was a well-made, nostalgic ode to 20 years of Spider-man movies complete with half a dozen returning characters from movies people grew up with in addition to the modern characters people liked.
There was absolutely no reason to automatically expect this one - which by all appearances is just a regular Spider-man movie - to go higher than No Way Home. Not when literally every other Spider-man movie made about 1b or less.

Each movie made more than the previous one did (despite the performances of other superhero movies), they were all popular with the audience and the marketing for this one was good. There was no reason to expect a lesser performace than the previous one unless you just dont understand how opening weekends for established franchises work.
So to get to the first 4 billion dollar grossing movie all Marvel and Sony have to do is keep making Spider-Man movies? I'm sorry but you have a very simplistic way of looking at things. That the first three movies each made more than the one before was not a guarantee the same would happen with the fourth, that's just not how these things work.
But if it was so obvious please point me in the direction of people predicting a success on this level before we had actual numbers.
