Decanonization Time!

decanonize Section 31. Not just the show, all references to such an organization. The Federation is supposed to be the Good Guys, not hosting fascist unaccountable secret overlords. Anything Section 31 really should be doing could be done by Starfleet Intelligence.

I would say decanonize Section 31, Disco, SNW and Starfleet Academy. But I don't really consider them canon at this stage.

Actually, the first DS9 episode with Sloan and Section 31 was brilliant, because you didn't know if Section 31 was an actual thing, or if Sloan was just fucking with Bashir and everyone else. But after that, they got a massive hard-on for this super-secret organization that makes no fucking sense whatsoever, and ran with it.

And I'll allow Enterprise as well.

The problem was that DS9 established S31 as being part of the original Federation charter. ENT then retcons this as having S31 existing before the founding of the Federation.

Also, it was completely unnecessary to have shown them in ENT, as they did nothing noteworthy to justify their existence in that show other than the aforementioned hard-on the writers had about them.

Just not going to happen. Especially since they can’t stop using it!

I thought it felt incredibly forced on Enterprise. But it was their story to tell.
Their depiction on Enterprise was still mostly in line with how they were presented on DS9. As opposed to the modern era where Section 31 is a publicly known secret organization which most of the time feels like the writers should have used Starfleet Intelligence instead.

Well, they're clearly playing into the "Men in Black' trope, but you're not wrong.

Sisko should have put them in a cell in Security for impersonating Starfleet officers.
