Ryan Coogler to reboot "The X-Files"

The thing is I think I heard someone say it was going to be in the same universe. Just can't recall where. Plus he seems to be making the show around new characters instead of just recasting Mulder and Scully. Though I guess they will have a similar Mulder an Scully dynamic.
We don't know that they are new characters, all we know is that Danielle Deadwyler and Hamish Patel are playing theme.

Reboots of TV shows, especially these days, are just lazy writing and a lack of originality, IMHO.

Some ideas are worth recycling or reimagining. I love certain sequels and movie or series adaptations and spinoffs, like Wednesday on Netflix. But Scully and Mulder, iconic characters of a 1990s cult phenomenon, need not be rehashed in a series with the same formulaic plot of chasing aliens and the monster-of-the-week plot.

With 6 episodes a year you're going to struggle to form a bond with any new characters or series. People seem to struggle with cheap production values too.

That's a curious sentiment. One of my favourite TV series to this day is from the 1980s and is 4 episodes long (The One Game) and one of my favourite from the 90s was only 6 (Ultraviolet). Setting aside that films require us to connect with characters when we may only have 90 minutes with them!

Indeed. Most good movies do at least a solid job of establishing characters and their relationships with each other in two hours. If anything, six episodes is a luxury. With the right writing, of course.

This will actually be the third cut of the film, as we already had an extended cut of the film back in 2008.

Curious to see how different this new cut will be.

Seeing how the movie has a major pedophile character I am kind of nervous as to what was filmed while going for the R-rating. Not so sure this is a good idea.

An R-rated director's cut of The X-Files: I Want to Believe hits Hulu on Aug. 14.

I might be in the minority here, but ... why? The film before the cuts was a waste of ticket money. It's a watch on TV even if censored heavily. So far I have had no compulsion to ever watch it again.

^^I highly doubt this cut is going to go there. As I highly doubt they would even film that kind of content to begin with. Chances are this is just more blood and gore or something like that.
Yeah, there's no way The X-Files would go there, it just wasn't that kind of show and even at R rating I doubt a movie would go that much farther than the show did.

Only thing is I think they might have been wanting to make a "Silence of the Lambs" type of movie more than a X-Files movie. Something that felt very grounded and dark and edgy. You can tell they for sure didn't want to do something with aliens or even monsters like you might see on the show. It kind of reminds of a few episodes when they sort of went that way like in the episode "Oubliette." or even something from "Millennium."

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guarantee you that they did not film any flashbacks to what that character did before the story of the film. If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit it.
it just wasn't that kind of show
But it was the kind of show to have a family of inbred murdering scumbags who even killed their own baby. :)

I don't think they would have actually filmed any flashbacks. I am thinking more about the girl who was kidnapped. Basically showing the bad guy acting more creepy. Implied sexual assault without showing any of it.
