A friend noticed they don't say 'House of' in DSC, they say 'House [name]'
for example they say 'House Mo'Kai', not 'House of Mo'Kai'

I did find a single instance of 'House of' and that's in Episode 2, referring to the 'House of D'Ghor', but any further references to any house including later mentions of D'Ghor, drop the 'of'.

Just thought that was interesting.

Searched transcripts of TNG, DS9 and Voyager, they all use 'of', I could find no instances of it missing.

Old news, but maybe some newer users don't know, but House Mo'Kai and D'Ghor are not new house names.

D'Ghor was in the DS9 episode 'House of Quark', and Mo'Kai was the house Klingon Janeway was part of in the Voyager episode 'The Killing Game'.

Although Bryan Fuller didn't have anything to do with The Killing Game, he did write the sequel to it called Flesh and Blood, so perhaps House Mo'kai remained something he was aware of while working on DSC.

More likely they just trawled Memory Alpha for names of Klingon houses.

I always assumed it was a Game of Thrones influence seeping through to drop the "of".

Klingon houses never made much sense anyway. The house name seems to be the current ruling patriarch in almost all circumstances. Worf seems to go for House of Mogh out of respect for his father and recognition that he's not a big deal enough to call it House of Worf.

I always assumed it was a Game of Thrones influence seeping through to drop the "of".

It could also be related to the Trek novels dropping the "of" in the 2000s. The DS9 novel duology The Left Hand of Destiny by JG Hertzler uses "House Martok" instead of "House of Martok." IIRC, the other novels featuring Klingons quickly followed suit and presented their House names in a similar style.
