News Season 2 will be the last (show cancelled)

Saying that things are better or worse is pretty inconsequential. These productions are all products of their time. I love TOS, but a lot of it is cringe-worthy when viewed in a 2020's perspective.

Reading the comments hear I gather the only thing Trekkies agree on is we disagree about everything . We are definitely all over the place. SA is the worse show ever. It's the best show ever. Berman Trek sucked. But it was way better than Kurtzman Trek. Ds9 and Voyager were meh, but some of the best Trek ever made. We are literally all over the place. Well except maybe the Section 31 movie. That does seem to be almost universally disliked. Maybe not 100 percent but it is one Star Trek thing I do see much wider agreement.

Nothing wrong with disagreement that mind you. In a way the wide diversity of opinions on Star Trek is a good thing. And with as many episodes and films there it'd probably be more surprising if there wasn't vast agreement. I was just amused at how much disagreement there is. From one end of the spectrum to the other and everything in between.

The only thing that saddens me a bit is this is the first time Star Trek has ever produced something I didn't like and will never revisit again. Season 2 of Picard, the Section 31 movie and of course SA. I loved all the shows and films before that. Yes their were individual episodes I was meh on. And I enjoyed Discovery, SNW, LD once I got in the spirit of the show, Prodigy and some of Picard. But then I suppose it had to happen eventually. Eventually a Star Trek would come along I just didn't like.

I think that's an inevitable side effect of them bringing more variety to the franchise. They've tried to grow the audience by making wildly different series that appeal to a wider set of people, but those people aren't going to like all of it.

We got this in the Berman era too, with one episode being an exciting space thriller and the next being a Chakotay romance story, but they didn't make a Chakotay romance series. And then tell everyone to watch it because has crucial story about the fate of the Federation.

That's because it's worse than anything produced in the Kurtzman era. But I've come to expect the clownish and performative dislike of the Kurtzman era from people stuck in the past.
Did I have you fooled for a second there?

An interesting failure still means it was a failure. If I had to choose between most Berman episodes/seasons vs. SFA, I’m going to pick the Berman stuff. Same thing applies largely to Discovery, Picard and SNW. If the question was a Berman series vs. TOS, I’d pick the original Star Trek every day of the week.

Where the Berman series get the most challenge for me in comparison with the Kurtzman-years is with Lower Decks and Prodigy.

It is all relative.
