Are you "aging out" of Star Trek?

This was the third book on a TV show I bought as a younger and I absorbed it. Every time my copy gets dog-eared, I buy another. One of the best books on a TV show ever, IMHO.
I promise I'll go back on topic after this, but just wanted to mention that my one beef with that book is that it kind of gives short shrift to the 1980s TZ, which I think is highly underrated. Some of those installments (Wordplay, To See the Invisible Man, A Little Piece and Quiet) can hang with the best of the original series.

I'd even say Paladin of the Lost Hour is the best TZ episode period, and Halan Ellison's best. It's always surprised me how little attention the 80s series gets.

That one stuck with me. Agreed.

'Two', with Charles Bronson and a brunette Elizabeth Montgomery is in my top 10. MeTV was showing 'To Serve Man' last night. Also a top tenner.

Those are great ones. "THE OBSOLETE MAN" is definitely in my top 10 of the original THE TWILIGHT ZONE, as well. (Imagine my surprise when I saw Fritz Weaver play another role in an oppressive government in DS9's "TRIBUNAL".)

People are alike all over, with Susan Oliver and Roddy McDowall is another.

The thing is, yes there were forgettable episodes, that's gonna happen with so many being made each season, a top 10 list isn't big enough for all the truly great episodes.

How do I start a Twilight Zone or TZ/Outer Limits sub-forum in the SF&F section? TZ gets a lot of love here. Star Wars and Dr Who are already there.

on the subject of aging out, here's a rare AI generated video of some of the main cast in so many series, their age back then and now

I rewatched Hill Street Blues a couple of years back, and to my eye, there's not a single "bad" episode there, though there are plots and things within individual episodes that are misfires.
The final year might be comparatively weak, as was GODFATHER III, but still superior to competitors outside their franchises.

Did the thread go off the rails? Is this about aging out of star trek or other dead shows/franchises like hill street blue, godfather, kissing chefs, and other things?

Show me any long running TV show ever that doesn’t have a bad episode.

Even Leonardo couldn’t paint a Mona Lisa every time. Who can?

As someone in a show from a show made in the 1960s said, "Genius doesn’t work on an assembly line basis. You can’t simply say, ‘Today I will be brilliant.’" Then again, that was Captain Kirk...

I think that is what creates the major disconnect in media consumption. We don't see how the product is made, all the failed attempts or negativity the production team endures to bring a product to the audience. So, when it fails we just look at that.
