From my understanding, there are a few Criterion laser discs that fetch triple digits on Ebay because of their scarcity, as well as some of their OP DVDs.
So back in the 80s and even into the early 90s, when movies came out on VHS, there would be an initial window where the tape would cost you $90-100. This was because the only people purchasing them at that point were the owners of video rental stores (and Rowdy Roddy McDowall
). If it's $5 to rent that movie overnight, they would make their money back after 18-20 rentals. Then, maybe 3-6 months after that, the price would be lowered to something more in the $25-30 range and become available to the general public.
They were triple digits new!

That first set of DVDs was so good because the laser discs were so good. It was in that weird moment of media where the sets were made by total nerds for total nerds. And the studios didn't care enough to interfere.
You could even see it IN the sets themselves: Goldeneye, still pretty great. TND: Eh. (Although it did have an isolated score.) The World is Not Enough: Corporate garbage.
Although I forget if Brosnan did commentary on TWINE or DAD. But it wasn't like the interviews even of Moore and Connery from... Was it TWINE Productions? Whatever outfit, essentially a fan club (wasn't it?), that did all of the earlier sets.

Rewatching the beginning of TWINE. How on Earth is this movie 27 YEARS OLD THIS YEAR?!?!?
We're now almost as far removed from TWINE as that movie is from Diamonds Are Forever. 
This year is the 20th anniversary of Casino Royale. How crazy is that?
And next year will mark 60 since Donald Pleasance's iconic turn as Blofeld in YOLT.
