The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

Ahhh, the laser disc days. I don't remember how much I paid for Tron or Toy Story. (Thankfully the Star Wars Box was a gift!)

OTOH, I did get the deluxe Thunderball used on LD for $5. That was a great day.

From my understanding, there are a few Criterion laser discs that fetch triple digits on Ebay because of their scarcity, as well as some of their OP DVDs.

I must be fundamentally misunderstanding what is going on, here…

90 bucks, 120 bucks, 189.90 Aussie bucks…

WTF???
So back in the 80s and even into the early 90s, when movies came out on VHS, there would be an initial window where the tape would cost you $90-100. This was because the only people purchasing them at that point were the owners of video rental stores (and Rowdy Roddy McDowall :p ). If it's $5 to rent that movie overnight, they would make their money back after 18-20 rentals. Then, maybe 3-6 months after that, the price would be lowered to something more in the $25-30 range and become available to the general public.

That first set of DVDs was so good because the laser discs were so good. It was in that weird moment of media where the sets were made by total nerds for total nerds. And the studios didn't care enough to interfere.

You could even see it IN the sets themselves: Goldeneye, still pretty great. TND: Eh. (Although it did have an isolated score.) The World is Not Enough: Corporate garbage.

Although I forget if Brosnan did commentary on TWINE or DAD. But it wasn't like the interviews even of Moore and Connery from... Was it TWINE Productions? Whatever outfit, essentially a fan club (wasn't it?), that did all of the earlier sets.

Jacob Elordi is rumored to have met with Denis Villeneuve about potentially playing James Bond in the new ‘007’ film.

I see him more a villain. A freakishly TALL villain who's undoing will be that he's too tall and gets sliced in half

I loved his performance in Frankenstein so I would be thrilled if he was in a James Bond film, regardless of who he's playing.

I wouldn't be completely opposed to the idea...and I guess it will be a year or so before he'd actually film. Still feels a smidgen young (and yes I know he's the age Lazenby was)
