Spoilers Starfleet Academy Episode Preview Thread

Right. The best and brightest and craziest. Ron Tracy, Maxwell, Pressman, Sati, Barclay, Cartwright, Leyton, even Ross.

The best Starfleet officers. And then the crazy ones.
Barclay invented a reliable methode of trans galactic communications.

Maxwell was a decent guy just driven over the edge due to tragedy, the death of his family. I'm not sure I'd lump him in the same category that includes two guys who plotted coups.

"Benjamin Maxwell earned the loyalty of those who served with him. You know, in war, he was twice honored with the Federation's highest citation for courage and honor. And if he could not find a role for himself in peace, we can pity him, but we shall not dismiss him."

I second the point made by @TheWormhole that Maxwell was not crazy. Maxwell took the law into his own hands and completely lost perspective due to his trauma. But he was right about the Cardassians. They were not entirely innocent in 'The Wounded' and his feelings about them were proven years later when they joined the Dominion.

Did he?

He was the numbnuts in charge of the night shift, by himself, when every reputable scientist was sleeping, which is something that would only be happening 10 years after someone invented the science and 5 years after someone built the Midas Array.

What he did was stand in-front of a console for 60 to 90 hours a week, for months, obsessing on where in the universe Voyager had lost itself, like a crazy person, falling off the wagon with his holo addiction.

Odds are, the program was automated, and no one had to actually be there.

He was essentially just proto Maquis. Plenty more went on to do what he done and were for the most part right about the Cardassians even before the Doninion.

Really curious what “Vitus Reflux” will feel like and how the reactions are going to be. From the preview images and everything we’ve heard so far in reviews I believe this is the episode that will most lean into the “teen college” angle out of the first six. It’s apparently a light comedy and my guess is that the drama will revolve around the conflict between the cadets. Going by the preview images this looks like it will be one of the “bottle shows” Noga Landau said they would do. I suppose for viewers who are waiting for the show to present more traditional Star Trek fare this might be a disappointment and I wonder if it would have been wiser for them to place it later in the season. Whether you like this episode or not probably hinges on whether you like the characters so far. Which I do, so I’m hopeful that I’ll like it. :)

“Vitus Reflux” doesn’t seem to be an existing Latin phrase. If it’s supposed to translate to something like “life turning backwards” or “life flowing back” it would need to be “vita” not “vitus”, which is apparently a proper name. I wonder what the relevance will be for the plot.

Are they doing trailers for episodes anymore? Isn’t it usually preview clips? No idea when they normally would drop, though.

There's a vertical-format trailer up on the Star Trek account on FB. About forty-five minutes ago. Can't find it elsewhere yet.

Appears to be about rivalry between the War College and SFA, with shenanigans.

Here it is …

Looks like it will be buckets of fun!
