The old Trek series is leaving Netflix.

This situation is truly very sad.

! I'd better get as many rewatches of "Precious Cargo" in as I can! (And, no, I'm not being sarcastic. I'll also re-enjoy "Vox Sola" and "A Night in Sickbay")

Eh. I enjoy a lot about streaming. Though for things I really want to have access to at any time, I pick up a physical copy.

That's how I see it, too ... streaming is a vastly superior option compared to linear tv. Before there was streaming, there were shows or movies I watched once when they aired, or I'd record them and erase the tape after watching ... stuff I didn't feel the need to rewatch. For such kind of content, streaming is much more convenient.

But stuff I want to collect and rewatch? I prefer physical media.

As far as Star Trek is concerned, I got DS9 and VOY on DVD, and everything else on Blu Ray (except for SNW season 3, which is still awaiting release). And I also got P+. So I don't really care it won't be on Netflix anymore.

In ancient times, I would occasionally rewatch a Trek series on VHS, but with so much content out there now aside from Trek, I don't do that anymore except for an occasional episode now and then from a more recent series.

I have a program called StreamFab, which allows you to download stuff from streaming services as MP4 files. It only allows you to DL from services you subscribe to, so you're still paying for the content, but you can save it to a drive. It's not exactly like having physical media, but it's yours unless there's a massive EMP, or somebody attacks it with a degausser.

Mentioned in another thread, I was on a continuity rewatch. Darn it anyway. P+ is not an option for me here. If that's where it does go...

Streaming sucks, and P+ is the pits. Physical media is still the way to go.
Yes, but there's the worry of disc rot and the sheer inconvenience of having to take out the disc and put it into the player, select the episode, hit play. Some people so rarely use their DVD and Blu ray players that they have to take the player out of storage and connect it up.

As for me, I have two issues. Firstly, I'm a clean freak. So it would not only be a hassle to take out the box set, I have to wash my hands first, dry them, ever so carefully take out the disc, and delicately put it into the player, and then I need to wash my hands again before taking the disc out. All this just for one episode when I have an hour free? My second issue is that I'm not exactly settled where I live so I don't have access to any of that anyway. No discs, no blu ray player and I don't want to start getting stuff I don't have room for or that I will need to carry around with all my other stuff.

I have made sure that I have all of the Trek stuff I care about on physical disk. While we do subscribe to some streaming services, I generally use them for new movies or movies I've never seen that I won't want to re-watch. Anything I really enjoy or know I will rewatch often, I will buy the disk.

for Star Trek, that means I have:
TOS 1-3 on BR
TAS 1-2 on DVD
TNG 1-7 on BR
DS9 1-7 on DVD
All 6 TOS films in 4K
TMP Director's Edition Box Set in 4K
All 4 TNG films in 4K
All 4 Kelvin Films in 4K
DSC 1 and 2 on BR
PIC 1 on BR (need to think about getting S3)

No way do I trust streaming services to have what I want, when I want it, in the quality I want it.

We cancelled P+ about 2 months ago. I don't plan on re-subscribing any time soon.
