Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

I don't consider myself enough of an expert to discern the differences between the various audio sources, but I'd like them to pick the best version from 1977 and remaster it.

I don't know why it matters. How many different versions have we watched of Star Wars over the years? More than that, why do I want to watch the film cut that out Lucas in the hospital?!?

Honestly? I don’t know your personal reason but mine is because the 1977 release of Star Wars is historical. It was the first work of ILM, it won Academy Awards. The version now might be as close to what GL wants as he can get and that’s fine. But the original version, in fact all of the versions, should be available. It’s called film preservation. Not everyone will agree with this and that’s fine as well.

I don't mind the preservation but I'm not a person to get the obsessiveness over it. I like the versions I have and the more I study the original film the more the shine comes off and I appreciate Lucas tinkering more. I don't necessarily want the Special Editions but I don't want the 77 one either.

But, I guess it makes sense for people to have access. I just don't see the pressing desire as others express in this thread.

If anything they should be showing the THX remastered version for the 30th anniversary this year, complete with Leonard Maltin interview.

Ha! :) That was a quality set (and box set) back in the day.

30th anniversary? That must be some mistake, surely... it was only just a few years ago... ;)

a snippet...

'There is a new record for the most expensive "Star Wars" item in the galaxy!

An original painting for the 1977 film, "Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope," sold Wednesday at Heritage Auctions for $3,875,000. Bidding began at $1 million.'

&

'Following the film’s release, the painting was hung in the office of producer Gary Kurtz, who later moved it to his home in the early 1980s, where it remained prior to this auction.

“It has been an honor to have this wonderful painting with us all these years,” Kurtz's daughter Melissa added in a statement. “It serves as a warm reminder of that incredible experience — being part of the making of a film that has touched so many lives.”'

.

the one thing about the star wars movies that is crazy is how many verisons within the verisons of the original trilogy are there

theres only 2 offical verisons

the original undone before 1997 verison and of course theres the 1997 spiecal edition

its like why did lucus films not make a undone pre 1997 unrated uncut uncensored super extended verison in 2007 then a 1997 speical edition style uncut uncsensored unrated super extended verison in 2017

It's about preserving the original release version of the film that was responsible for redefining American and even world cinema and revolutionizing visual effects.

Same as the multi-decade efforts to preserve and restore Fritz Lang's Metropolis, or Abel Gance's Napoleon, and so on. History isn't meant to be swept away in the pursuit of unattainable perfection.

Then send it to a museum. DVDs and VHS still exist that people can watch.
