New StarGate series Prime Video.

Apparently a cut part of the above scene had the "Wormhole X Treme" trailer end, followed by silence, followed by Teal'c bursting out laughing before Jackson said "Well, that looked... Familiar...". You can still catch Teal'c's bemused expression in his next line that we DID see.

I think they should've used it. :P

Granted, I think the fact Atlantis was shortened allegedly due to Stargate Universe was probably a major factor in my lack of enjoyment.

I'm skeptical of that allegation. Atlantis ran for 5 seasons, and no scripted TV series ever had more than 5 seasons on The Sci-Fi Channel/Syfy. (SG-1 had 5 seasons on Showtime and 5 on Syfy.) Joe Mallozzi said that while they were hoping for a season 6 pickup, they knew the odds were heavily against it. So it's not like the show was entitled to further seasons that were stolen from it by SGU. It probably wouldn't have gotten a sixth season even if SGU hadn't been under consideration. Or if it hadn't been SGU, they would've been asked to develop some other show to replace SGA, since a new show would have lower salaries and licensing fees than a sixth-season show (which is presumably why 5 seasons was the ceiling on Syfy).

Yeah Universe was really hard for me to watch, and I loved SG-1 and Atlantis. Granted, I think the fact Atlantis was shortened allegedly due to Stargate Universe was probably a major factor in my lack of enjoyment.

The final seasons of Atlantis became repetitive for me. I liked the revised tone of Universe--but the writing was all over the place and it struggled to find its footing for the first half of the initial season. By the end of that season I was hooked and was sad to see it end the way it did.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Just keep it on the basics. You don't need to reinvent the wheel (no pun intended) as Stargate has a lot to tell in its original format.

Have some nods to the original, but don't go crazy like modern Trek.

I think I'm asking for Stargate: The Next Generation. 🤣

I don't mind a guest star of an old cast member, then sod off. Let the show stand on its own feet.

Yup! That was my problem with SNW. Every season started adding plot heavy callbacks to TOS, from the Q guy to the metatron (or whatever) guy; like you already have Kirk and Spock, let the show stand on its own?

I think if the new Stargate finds its own path with the old cast providing "passing the torch" support it can go very well.

I have this memory of the creators explicitly denying the cancellation of Atlantis had anything to do with Universe. I don't remember where I heard/read this; it might have been Rowan J Coleman's retrospective series on YouTube.

It wouldn't really make sense. They would have milked Atlantis like they did SG1 commercially, and SG1/Atlantis could run concurrently as could many Treks.

Yeah I remember hearing that rumor too but granted it is on shaky ground.

No more than going from Doctor Who to Torchwood, or from Discovery to Lower Decks, or from Rebels to Andor. There's no point to having a multi-series franchise if the series aren't different from each other.
That's one of my favorite things about these kind of franchises, that they can have so many different types of series.

It's simple economics. You slightly retool the premise, bring new actors in that get paid much less by signing a 5 year contract; can reuse a lot of the existing sets and props, and amortize any new sets needed.

But as I said, that just proves that Atlantis would probably never have gotten a sixth season anyway -- no Syfy show ever did, precisely because it would've been too expensive to pay sixth-season cast and crew salaries. So it's illogical to blame Universe for its cancellation, because it would still most likely have ended after five seasons even without Universe.

There was discussion by the writers of a planned Atlantis (TV) movie, and a third SG1 movie. It seems that MGM's financial troubles shitcanned those plans.

Not just discussion, they had finished screenplays! I wonder if the new show might consider the two movies to have happened off-screen and reference them somehow. If they are going with a "the Stargate has been public knowledge for a while" angle, they just might - allegedly the third SG-1 movie was to have included the disclosure of the program. If the new show is a success, maybe they will adapt the screenplays somehow, for audio maybe. On the other hand, they might also want to reuse their ideas for the new show.

Nah, better to start fresh and work on stories that make sense rather than referencing a 20 year old show.
I'd love to see an SGA reunion movie as long as its not just a nostalgia dumpfest.

Simply wonderful that the new series will include many creative people from the past TV series :luvlove:
More importantly though, that it will be a new series within that overall story setting :adore: no matter in what universe ;) it will take place.

Whether there will be past characters included in it or not and whether RDA is retired from acting, I really would love at least one snarky promo for the new series with RDA doing a Jack O'Neill. Imagine this:

the new SG-team is walking towards the Gateroom and Jack O'Neill decked out in a fishing outfit with gear crossing them in the hallway. One of the new SG-team members stuttering to another member "that's the legendary General/Admiral Jack O'Neill" and then that member asking the General/Admiral "Any advice Sir?"

Jack then replying: "Congratulations on the new SG-team and mission folks. I hope the briefing included a slide titled ‘What Could Possibly Go Wrong?’ because we all love a good surprise." then walking off, leaving them stunned, cue some montages of the new show.
