Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

All Good Things established that the University of Cambridge was still a going concern and Jack Crusher attended University in London, but clearly not Starfleet Academy.

Something I noticed recently re-watching Bread and Circuses was that RM Merik was said to have washed out of Starfleet Academy during his  fifth year. Now, I'm not going to go all Thermian on y'all and cry "canon violation" or "alternate universe" or anything like that, but I will say that it stood out to me while re-watching given all that's been established about the Academy since then.

It makes sense to me - he didn't earn enough credits as of the fourth year, for whatever reason, took a fifth to try and get them, and still didn't make it before being kicked out.

Makes me wonder if he did something that got his credits for one year revoked but not quite enough to get expelled the first time. (Wesley and the rest of his squad got that at the end of "The First Duty".)

SPOCK: Curious, Captain, the similarity in names. Were you told why Merik was dropped from the Space Academy?
KIRK: He failed a psycho-simulator test. All it takes is a split second of indecision. Hardly the type to become a political strongman.

Whatever Merik was tested on required an instant response.
