A quick thought.

In terms of Superman murdering Zod in MoS, doesn't he also murder Zod in Superman II as well? Zod's human at this point, Supes picks him up and throws him against the wall before he falls to his death!

The Donner movies had a lot of campy slapstick to them, and the defeat of the Kryptonians was supposed to be part of that.

Someone else made this comparison to explain:

"When Wile E Coyote falls off that cliff, again and again, does he die? No, it's goofy slapstick meant to elicit laughs."

However, Superman DOES sadistically torture Zod and do a lot of other questionable things throughout Superman 2 which makes it an inferior movie to Superman 1.

Actually he's killed by the polar bears at the bottom of the chasm.
Hold on.
I'm being informed that "polar bears" are from a different Superman project. ;)

I thought the polar bears were part of the Dharma Initiative.
You asked for it
In Kevin Smith's unproduced Superman Lives script, polar bears guarding the entrance to Superman's Fortress of Solitude were included at the request of producer Jon Peters. The bears would have risen from the ground as Superman's visitors approached, a detail that became a well-known part of the film's troubled production history.

Warner Bros Makes Box Office History

“Sinners” is expected to generate around $60 million in theatrical profits; “Superman” around $125 million; “Final Destination: Bloodlines” approximately $75 million; “Weapons” around $65 million (and counting), according to knowledgeable individuals. For “F1,” Warner Bros. was paid a flat distribution fee as well as a percentage of revenues in line with certain box office benchmarks, resulting in theatrical profits of roughly $34 million.

Thus endth the the lesson.
