Yes, and truly new species, and not just new "updates" on the designs of previously seen species. It's been centuries since the events of Picard. Surely more than just a few new races have been introduced in to the mix.
I'm fine with updated species. I just need also new ones. I imagine they've visited many areas of the Alpha, beta and even Gamma quadrants by now
A new species would satisfy me in the Academy series. I'm not watching this series for aliens of the season.
I'm not at all shocked that a show with a cast consisting primarily of good looking young people is making them play aliens who look mostly human anyway. Indeed, that was the rationale for the many minimal makeup design for those various Berman era aliens, we want to show-off the good looking people we've cast in these particular roles.
It's not like Hollywood considers casting people who aren't 'attractive' that often, sadly
I believe there are two new aliens species in it
The President of the Federation in Seasons 4 and 5 of DSC was one-third Cardsssian, one-third Bajoran and one-third human.
That must have been a product of a fun Menage a Trois.
They probably shouldn't have had two of their new alien races both start with the letter, K. Especially when you got Klingons also in the cast.

Yeah, I think the math is on Jayson's side here. I actually saw her as the product of a union of a full-blooded human and a half Bajoran / half Cardassian hybrid.
Yes ... because the prevailing questions I'm several episode threads in the 32nd century setting was "Where are the Klingons/Ferengi/Dominion/familiar alien?"
