‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Renewed for Fifth and Final Season

That doesn’t really answer my question.
That doesn't make the answer incorrect. They Paramount have renewed SNW for a S5 consisting of 6 episodes. When they film it will be up to the Studio. Paramount OWNS the Canadian studio they film the series in. Whether or not Skydance remains a business partner in it's production doesn't matter.

If the studio wants or needs to it can make a separate deal for Season 5; and yes, if something bad happens they could change their mind and cancel it too.

But in the end, if it's filmed, it will be when Paramount says so.

What I am asking is when would be the latest they could produce the season before Kurtzman’s contract expires. If you don’t know that, your nonsequitor answer is meaningless.

When would be the latest that season 5 could be produced then?

Season 4 finishes filming in August, so I imagine a couple months after that.

Someone on Reddit who claimed to be on the production claimed a few days before Season 5 was officially announced, that pre-production would start a few weeks after 4 finished.

Thank you for actually answering my question.

British shows like Endeavour, Inspector Morse, Vera, and A Touch of Frost are down at around three or four episodes per season (a.k.a. series). Poirot was down to that level from 2000 onward.

Agreed. But many of those did 3ish 90 minute shows or multi 2 part episodes. There many ways they can approach this. Most likely 6 separate stories but depending on where the creative juices are at, why not do 1 serialized story , 3 two parters or even two 3 parters ( Ala the Enterprise Season 4 trilogies)

Especially for a shortened final season, I'd rather see 2 or 3 great storylines fully fleshed out than 6 storylines where only about half are executed "relatively well"

Thank you. Those are good points and suggestions.

With Secret Hideout's contract ending in 2026, I would assume that it means they can't make anymore Trek beyond that point. So getting all of that filmed sooner rather than later makes total sense.

(The possibility of renewal exists, but nobody wants to be caught out.)

They'll be just dumb enough to renew it

Would Love for SH to get replaced by true ST people, but have given up

Starfleet academy looks horrible, IMO

If the timestamp doesn't work at 13:25 Akiva talks a bit about how the greenlight for Season 5 came about; and reading between the lines, you can figure out why it's 6 episodes and not 10.

I think many in the cast and crew agreed to take less in compensation on some level and worked with the accounts to see what they could do with the ultimate season budget they were given <-- But that's just supposition on my part...only those involved in whatever negotiations took place know the particulars.
