‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Renewed for Fifth and Final Season

Am I glad that, even before the third season premiered, we learned that a fourth and fifth are guaranteed? Absolutely! It’s always good to know when something is ending before it’s cut short
Given Paramount's financials im very glad to know that this ending and appreciate what is coming.

"Goodbye, Jean-Luc, you had such potential. But all good things must come to an end.'

Could be also a case of "6 episodes, but budget as before for 10, and really go all-out for the final episodes (GoT style)".
We just don't know at this point.

That’s true. I do think it’s likelier that they just didn’t get the deal for ten, but never say never. That would be cool!

There's a part of me that wonders if those missing 4 episodes become a "Long Trek."

Probably just me being hopeful, but they did say they wanted to make multiple streaming films.

Granted that was before Section 31 came out to less than stellar reviews, but it'd be a shame if they gave up after only one attempt.

FARSCAPE was "guaranteed" seasons 4 AND 5 when it got that renewal announcenent toward the end of season 3.

It ended up getting canceled midway through season 4. If the money well dries up, no shows will flow.

Until filming actually begins on a 5th season, I don't trust this announcement. (And even then, I am not 100% trusting given how many shows have been taken out for tax breaks.)

(I will also echo the statement that 6 is just too short an episode count for already too short seasons.)

What you're saying is that down the road from the end of S5 they might do one or two SWN movies for streaming? That would be cool, though probably not too likely.

I get this, for sure, and believe me, I carry that scar for Farscape. I was very young, but I participated a bit in the #SaveFarscape fandom efforts, which helped lead to the miniseries finale. That was very cool to experience firsthand.

Still… I’ll say it’s very likely that, when a show is officially renewed, and a rough production date is even given, that the season will be made. Especially when the production is presently penciled in for prior to the fourth season even airing.

Farscape was a relative rarity.

I’m personally comfortable saying it’s a 95% chance of happening, but I won’t forget the 5%!

More like they end the series with a streaming movie. SNW will probably go down as their most successful series in the modern era, assuming they don't shit the bed in these next 3 seasons. Maybe they want to go out with a bang.

Probably would have been a more popular idea than doing anything with SECTION 31.

For people surprised they are ending the show after five seasons: Just how long did you think this would run and what in the current climate of streaming shows made you think there was much chance of that happening?

I reckon some still think seven seasons is feasible, when yeah, it very likely isn’t. Just a different era on so many levels.

I mean, still, I wouldn’t exactly have complained if SNW defied all odds!

I was part of that campaign, too. The ONLY 'save a show' campaign I have ever participated in. Feel pride in that!

Definitely. If this were me, the show would get another five seasons. But I wonder under what rock someone would live to think there was any chance of the show getting to seven seasons. What kind of comparable show has run this long in the last couple of years?

Is anyone actually surprised? I think it's more about how short the season is, rather than the fact it ends with a fifth season.
Not saying it’s a widespread thing, but without wanting to call people out, just a couple of posts up we have someone in this thread calling the news that it’ll go to five seasons “very sad news”. :wtf:
