What games are you playing currently?

Huh, I haven't been getting any crashing through my time with it and I've had it for more than a year. But I've always found the game to be very repetitive and the tasks are always samey, especially now that I'm at end-game and have to grind just to be able to unlock the last two worlds.

There's one quest towards the middle of the main quest which I feel is terrible design, and it's that you have to be in-game during specific time periods, defined by the clock on your system, in order for items related to that quest to show up. There are certain times of day I just don't play for different reasons, and this caused me to change my schedule.

Personally, I've had way more fun with My Time at Portia. That one is a hybrid crafting rpg/action rpg along the lines of Stardew Valley.

Well everyone's systems are different. Maybe at a later date I might buy it again but for now I'm out. Maybe you could play with your pc clock and change that to get those items

Having recently completed Last of Us Part 1 ( still have to do the DLC Left Behind) i stumbled upon Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 because all review sites are falling over themselves and giving very high ratings and some floating it as a candidate for Game of the Year.

Checked it out, story sounded fascinating and even though i have not played much japanese RPG style games i decided why not, especially because i got it for less than 30 Euros and it looks like an AAA title with a stacked voice cast ( Charlie Cox voicing the lead character).

Played a couple minutes of the intro and it really looks great even on my 2 generations old system.

Who does the voice of the girl in the game? She sounds familiar

Jennifer English, who played Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3. She'll be doing a playthrough stream on her twitch later this week so I figured I'll check the game out for myself then.

Now that explains the voice. I played a bit of BG 3. It's a huge game but needs a bit more commitment than I'm wanting to right now.

I'm now probably about 15 hours into Clair Obscur: Expedition 33... oh man, what a game.

Is it worth it if you’ve got mixed feelings about JRPGs? I love what I’ve seen in the trailer but a lot of JRPGs lose my interest if they don’t manage to ground their games in a good story or if they’re not masters at blending the ludicrous with almost suffocating sincereness that Yakuza/Like A Dragon is so good at.

As for me…. Finally finished Atomfall and very much enjoyed it. I wish it had had an even bigger world and just a little more about Oberon and the scientist were fleshed out but for a small studio release it was charming. I’d love to see them take the same thing on with a budget but within that small budget they managed to capture the things that matter so much for games like that. All kinds of flaws but it comes together well and keeps you curious and thinking all game long.

I mean, it's not really a JRPG... it was made by a french studio. Plus the story is more mature than most JRPGs. OTOH, it is a turn-based game. So if that doesn't interest you, then it might not be for you.

I haven't played it yet due to life keeping me busy at the moment but the combat system is clearly JRPG inspired, if you don't like it then you have a problem. Judging from various review sites and others i read online the story is ace though. I'm curious and maybe i'll find time on the weekend to give it a proper go.

I can't really compare it to JRPG, I am not very knowledgeable in this genre but I had to buy Clair Obscur : Expedition 33 after someone commented that it's a agressively French.
After 7h in the game, I think it's not agressively French, it's just the rest of the world that is not French enough :D

Anyway, I like it so far. I had fun with the gameplay but maybe beaucause I am not used to turn based games. Some have said that it's a good game to start with this genre.
The story is mysterious enough that I want to know more, the starting point of the plot is really good.
Bonus, the soundtrack is great.

I hope the reste of the game is good but for now it's promising and I am glad to support a studio from Montpellier that apparently put a lot of care in their game.

The devs flat out state that they were inspired by JRPGs, particularly Final Fantasy 7. 9 and 10 and Persona but if the story is strong enough then the combat won't matter all that much. Final Fantasy 16 wasn't turn based but they went over the top on combat that had more in common with watching a short film than fighting a boss and they did it without doing much in the way of telling a decent story.

For most games story OR a brilliant sandbox will cover for gameplay in my eyes. If I'm complaining about combat it's liikely because the game didn't immerse me or worse, just bored me.
