The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

Honestly? I'm pretty tired of efforts to make Bond a prestige property. Give me the workmanlike action entertainments of the pre-Craig days.

OTOH, I'm not sure but that I'm not done with the franchise anyway, now that it's going to become just more "content," instead of a cinematic legacy with dedicated caretakers at the helm.

Bezos- Eliminate her!!!

Brocoli's dismissal/buy out was a Jeff Bezos call after she had called Amazon idiots

Not surprisingly, those choice words did not go over well with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. “He read her quote in the Journal and got on the phone and said, ‘I don’t care what it costs, get rid of her,’ ” is how one insider describes what happened, confirming that what Bezos ended up paying for the franchise was close to a billion dollars.

With me, Nolan's one of those directors where I honestly don't think I've enjoyed any of his movies since his Batman ones, yet I still feel a compelling need to see his moves in theatres anyway, just to ask "why?" afterwards.

I feel the same way about this post.

The next James Bond should be British, says former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan, who is, er, Irish.

I’m unable to find the full quote in context, so I do wonder if he means the character or if he simply means “not American.”

I found the article from The Telegraph that the BBC article references, but even that article doesn't include the direct quote. It does lead off with "Pierce Brosnan has said the next James Bond should not be American...," as well as "The former 007 actor said it was a 'given' that Daniel Craig's successor should be British, amid rumours that an American could be tipped for the role." They go on to mention Oscar Isaac and Pedro Pascal as well as some of the usual Brits we've seen bandied about including Andrew Garfield and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Yeah, I’m thinking he was asked something like “should James Bond remain British?”, rather than a question about the nationality of the actor.

I never had issues with the actual dialogue, though his plot construction in some of the non-batty films may be off-putting (DUNKIRK not being in exact chronological order, for example).
As someone who has not seen Dunkirk, I refuse to believe Chris Nolan made a movie that didn't tell its story chronologically.

And if you really need confirmation, yes, that was very heavy-handed sarcasm.

I find I much prefer the John Mills version of Dunkirk from 1958 to Nolan's.

Christopher Nolan is one of those directors where I adore the art direction and the production design of his films, but there is something about his scripts that just leave me cold.

Interesting people suggesting Nolan insults the intelligence of his audience when it could be argued it's the reverse, he trusts the audience are smarter than most film makers do. And yes that means on occasion he makes convoluted shite (I'm looking at you Tenet).

I don't think that's what Bond needs, at least not right now. It needs Goldeneye not Skyfall.

Leaving aside accent and nationality, Oscar turned 46 this week, so I would imagine that alone excludes him.

Well it certainly would have done under Eon. We don't know what Amazon's view is going to be. Are they going to want a guy who can play Bond for the next 10/15 years and make five films or will they settle for the right actor even if he'll only commit to making two or three films? (Ala the Christian Bale as Bats option)
