News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

All writers gotta start from somewhere.

Gene Roddenberry had a string of freelance writing credits, some one-shot pilots that weren't picked up, and a show he created that was cancelled after a single season. He was a jobbing writer just like everyone else who's run series during the Kurtzman era.

Yep. The Lieutenant and episodes of series like Have Gun Will Travel were a decent resumé but not as long or stellar (no pun intended) as those of some current showrunners. Roddenberry busted his rear end to get TOS made and had to burn through no fewer than two pilot episodes to get a network to sign off on a weekly series.

Seems like hiring writing and creative talent with a passionate for the fundamentals of Trek, as well as knowledge of Trek, is a good idea. Who would have thought?

Certainly not me.

You mean like the guy who wrote Nemesis?

John Logan did not have a background in science fiction, nor knowledge or passion for Star Trek.

And he could have wrote an absolutely fantastic script, it would have mattered - Stuart Baird was completely unsuited to direct the movie, he did a horrible job combined with the studio giving into Patrick Stewart's demands.
