Since the writers strike is over, i wonder if we will hear anymore about SGU?

Sad that i stil cant talk about this show, well concept on Gateworld. Pretty bad they censor and delete any talk about this.

The strike didn't have affect on Brad Wright and Robert C Cooper since they're both Canadians, but I think the show is still being developed and they're still having a problem getting it OKed for whatever reason probably fiancing the show. I wouldn't expect to see the show until 2009 or 2010 if at all.

Yes, but I believe that both are also members of the WGA.

Nope, someone asked Joseph Mallozzi on his blog and he said there was only one writer affected and neither of them was the one, think it was Carl Binder.

Speaking of the Ancient repository of knowledge head sucker, I think someone from Atlantis should encounter one. The situation and story would be better than "tao of Rodney"

Problem with that is who would remove the knowledge from the affected person's brain? We know that its too much for an ordinary Human to handle and the only race that was capable of removing it were the Asgard who are, at least for now, gone. And I'm not sure Earth is that familiar with the Asgard database to help remove such knowledge from a person's mind... could be wrong though.

I've been wondering when this supposed expedition to older regions of the universe was supposed to take place. In their home galaxy? Milky Way? Or during their debacle in Pegasus? I think we will only hear more about this after the second SG-1 movie is out.

The only route now to cure someone of "head sucker sickness" would be ascension.

But can anyone gain ascension with a head sucker's contents in their brain? I mean doesnt one need a clear mind and while while those with the Repository's knowledge in their brain can't even think straight and do things that they don't even know they are doing?

Anyway, I suppose after Continuum comes out we can hear more about this new series.

Depends if they are evolutionarly advanced enough, they may have to the use the ascend-o-matic machine as well.

I nominate Dr. Lee as the first test subject, LOL

What would be better is to make this trip a one way trip. Lets say somehow they find this planet from the database that is located in the milkyway. This planet could had a hidden base left by the Ancients that can only be access by someone with the Dna gene ala Sheppard.

Inside this Base they see it is powered off the planet somehow kind of like Inferno(season 2) or something to the effect of Trinity.
Bascially way more power than just a few ZPM'S.

And at the center of this base we see a Stargate.
And though any stargate can reach that ship that the Ancients set off millions of years ago to explore the universe, you need lots of power to use the ninth chevron.

So you have the power to gate to the ship, but find you dont have the power to gate back to the planet.

Its a one way trip. But from this planet and its stargate they can keep opening up the gate and send you supplies and weapons and people if need be, but they right now just cant send anyone back.

To me that would make it more interesting and dont have to worry of seeing have the cast of SG1 and Atlantis ever show up cause if they did they cant go back they will be stuck on this ship.

And on a side note, the stargate on the ship can be part of the network they use in the milkyway, but the stargates in place on the planets would not be in the network.

Just something i feel would make this show alot better if it ever gets made.

Just wanted to bump this thread. Im hoping we hear something soon. With both movies being released soon, last one in July i think, we should start hearing stuff if this is going to be made. I think it will be made this winter for a July showing of 2009.

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

can't believe the poll is so split, heh, almost even across the board on opinion

I just wonder what poll this is people are talking about - I don't see any in this thread.

The poll results were lost when the board transitioned to V-Bulletin. I don't think any of the old polls are going to be restored, either. :(

Re: Stargate Universe Good or BAD?

That was posted before the board upgrade, when we could slip polls into replies. I added one in my reply on the first page asking if people liked the concept. I even mentioned I was enjoying it while I could, since a solid date for the upgrade had been set.

Count me in with the people who like the premise. And since polls make everything more fun, and the days I can do this are officially numbered...

Once the upgrade occurred, though, all existing polls were lost. The ability to have multiple questions and polls in replies is the only thing I miss from the old software.

Wow. SGU sounds pretty shit. When I first heard about Atlanits I was excited and desperate to watch it. I forced everyone in my family to stay away from the PC while I downloaded Stargate Lowdown (our internet was very slow back then). With this. I'm not even intrested at all. I might watch the first episode if it comes out just for the sake of checking it out.

From Gateworld: Robert Cooper

(And what of Stargate Universe, the highly anticipated third TV series in the franchise? "I don't know!" Cooper said. "Unfortunately it takes a really long time to get deals done. And then everybody wants everything tomorrow."

The series has been pitched, and the decision on the next step currently rests with MGM -- as does the decision for a third SG-1 movie. An MGM representative told GateWorld that the studio is not ready to comment on either just yet.

"I'm not trying to be elusive," he added. "But I feel like we've been predicting things for a couple of years now, and I almost kind of want to say, 'When it happens, it happens.'")

Seems we might not be getting this show for a long while. Which is good cause i think Stargate needs a rest after the 5th season of Atlantis.

I think it needs a rest too, they should just concentrate on Atlantis and making it better at this point IMO.

They hardly can just do Atlantis so they really need a break. After Atlantis ends they should just take some time off and maybe do one SG-1 movie a year.

After 10 years of SG-1 I'm not sure how many more DVD movies we really need.

Then again as long as it brings in money, they'll keep making them.

But yes, they're having a tough enough time with Atlantis, quality-wise. To start another series now would be madness. Not that that's ever stopped TPTB before.

It sounds pretty official now.

http://www.gateworld.net/news/2008/04/istargate_universei_revealed.shtml

"The idea of Stargate Universe is that it is set on a ship that was part of an Ancient experiment that was set in motion probably millions of years ago -- one that they never saw to fruition, but that we can," Wright told GateWorld exclusively. "They got busy with the whole ascension thing."

The experiment is "to send a ship across the universe, and to send one ahead of it to seed the galaxies with Stargates, and that they would one day use the ninth chevron to get there [to the ship]. And that's what Stargate Universe is."

Millions of years ago (before their conflict with the Wraith and possibly even before they moved Atlantis to the Pegasus Galaxy), the show would reveal, the Ancients sent out two ships: an automated vessel to place Stargates throughout multiple galaxies in our universe, and a second ship to follow up and explore.

A standard, 7-symbol gate address allows for travel within the same galaxy. Use of the Stargate's eighth chevron allows for travel to a different galaxy. And the ninth chevron will allow the team to reach this second, still unmanned Ancient ship.

The series was pitched to SCI FI Channel last fall, just before the writer's strike -- which put a hold on the project. "The pitch was received very well," Wright said. "[But] we pitched an expensive series -- the idea we have is not cheap. I think we've proven ourselves, so ... 'Can we please have enough money to do it right this time?' And, if not, then honestly I don't want to do it. Why do it wrong?

The strike and the potential cost of Stargate Universe are not the only reasons the show is not yet moving forward.

"Part of the reason it's taking a while is that Atlantis is currently on-going, and because we didn't want to go into development with anything during the writer's strike -- because it seemed inappropriate. Even though we're Canadian, we recognized it is for the American marketplace."

"Internally, Robert and I are a little bit torn, because we had such a great time making The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum. Making one or two of those a year would be a damn fine thing to do! Honestly, it takes up a big chunk of time writing it, a big chunk of time making it, and then the post on a movie is more than twice as complicated as post on the biggest episodes. So it's not like you can just knock one off while you're making a television show. It's just too much."

Wright said that he is not anxious to return to a schedule that requires the Vancouver team to produce 40 hours of television each year, indicating that Stargate Universe may wait until Atlantis has concluded its run.

When the show does begin, Wright believes that it has to both move the franchise forward to attract new viewers, and remain true to the established formula. "It has to feel like Stargate, and it has to feel new. That's the tight rope, that's the balance you have to maintain, and that's the challenge.

"To put it in its simplest terms, if we had ever just done SG-2as a series it would never have worked. It's not the C.S.I. model."

ten years isn't long enough for a break. Following the Star trek model, we're only half way through ds9. Actual warranted callings for a break shouldn't be arriving till 2 years into universes when they realize that it's going now where and pointless... But the franchise isn't murdered till half way through the 4th series which assumes it is going to get 10 years and don't come close.
