Good news: They got my car out of the impound lot (although I STILL don't understand why it ended up there, I should have asked the cops).
Bad news: It's totalled.

Oh well. I knew it would be, anyway. The guys at the auto shop probably took one look at it and burst out laughing.
I'll say one thing, getting a new car will be super-easy, since it's gonna be the exact same make and model (Honda CR-V). There will be precisely ZERO haggling at the dealership.
Another good thing about this whole mess is that the cops on the scene were SUPER nice to me. They weren't like "Sir, get out of the car, NOW!" or anything like that. I told them that the reason for the accident was the sun was in my eyes, and one of the cops was like "I KNOW, right?" He had a hard time reading my license plate, the sun was so bright (this was about 9 AM).
And thanks for the health wishes, guys. Nobody was hurt. But I actually kinda lucked out - if the other car had hit me just a few inches more to the back, I might be missing key legs right about now.
And it still cracks me up that the rental I'm driving right now has Jersey plates. I seriously keep forgetting what this car looks like, but thanks to those plates, I can always find it.
