Currently trying to get my passport for an upcoming business trip. Never had one before since the only time I was out of the country, which was decades ago, a passport wasn't needed at the time for where I went. Sent all my documents to the passport agency back in December, with the extra cost for an expedited process. They didn't like the birth certificate I sent. Notarized copies aren't valid (apparently), so I had to send the original. I sent that on Jan 6th by Priority Mail, supposed to take at most 3 days. It's now Jan 21st, over 2 weeks later, and the online tracker keeps saying "arriving late Jan 13th". Put in a support ticket, all the post office could tell me is "it's in transit". It's been "in transit" for nearly 2 weeks! I put in another support ticket, plus a "lost mail" search request today. In the meantime, just in case it's truly lost, I had to apply for a new birth certificate from a state I haven't lived in for nearly 50 years. Assuming that goes through without any issues, that'll take another week to get to me, then I have to send it off to the passport office again. At this point there's a good chance I'll miss my only opportunity to visit a truly foreign country.
