If they cut to surprise: Prime Lorca (the return of Jason Isaacs), managed to have survived , and is still alive in the Mirror-verse, and is fighting his way back!
I might tune in.
Until then, absolutely nothing intrigued me about that trailer.

Though "Deltan" Humberly Gonzalez might be worth checking out.;)

NO, because it looks horrible and I'm upset it exists.
That’s my main issue with most of the NuTrek content. If executives decide that Star Trek needs to shift from portraying a hopeful future to a grittier, more sinister atmosphere, they’re free to do so. If they want to focus on representing gay and trans characters, I don’t mind at all…

The problem arises when the franchise falls behind in terms of good screenwriting, cinematography, and character development. Discovery isn’t underwhelming because of its themes, but because of its artistic execution. They’ve had ample time and funding to deliver episodes that at least match the quality of excellent contemporary TV productions.

Yes, it’s fair to say we haven’t seen Section 31 yet and shouldn’t judge the movie before its release. However, I disagree with waiting to form an opinion when all signs point to yet another instance of mediocre entertainment. I just can’t look forward to watching a show with such limited potential.

If I’m wrong, and Section 31 turns out to be a success and a shining example of good modern Trek, I’ll gladly stand corrected. But this is about managing expectations so I don’t get disappointed again. It has nothing to do with ‘hate watching.’ You can’t expect me to hype up a movie in a franchise that has consistently shown flaws in its recent outings.

This is a perfect answer. I completely agree that what's wrong with modern Trek has nothing to do with representation. It's simply not that good. For me, it fails on multiple artistic levels. It fails to deliver well-made television in even the most basic areas.

As for forming an opinion about a movie that hasn't even been released, I think most of the time people should give it a chance. But as Iocborg has stated, there are ample reasons to doubt the quality based on what's been delivered thus far. Personally, I never liked the idea of Section 31 when it was introduced in DS9. Paired with my dislike of modern Trek and that horrible trailer, I'm sitting this one out.

Strange New Worlds won me over in quality.

Lower Decks is good too.

Prodigy is decent.

I liked Discovery enough. Picard was hit and miss.

That's about 3/5 for the current output.

I have zero expectations but past history is ok. Given I only really enjoyed two Trek series before that, TOS and DS9, liking 3 is a bit of a positive sign.

And if it's bad? Who cares? Live moves on despite my outrage over a fictional universe that has limited bearing on daily life.

I would suggest Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks as examples of well written, character driven shows with great cinematography. Both manage to capture the spirit of TOS and TNG. DISCO is over, SNW and LD are different animals. SEC31 seems to be as well, though closer to DISCO "DNA".

Ill be watching. I watch all live action trek even if its likely to stink. I didnt particularly like the trailer but who knows. Getting a little tired of the darkly lit sets and black leather. I guess to be a covert operation that everyone always seems to find out or know about you have to keep the ships poorly lit and everyone needs to wear bad ass black leather jackets. 😂

So...X-Men.

I'm happier with this being a one off rather than a full season

Michelle Yeoh is fantastic and some of the supporting characters look interesting. Hoping we get at least one uniform lol (have we got a year setting for this yet, other than The fabled 'Lost Era')

Of course, I’m going to watch that utterly disappointing scam of a movie. I’ll watch it, and then I’ll drag it through the mud.
Look, I'm by and large a NuTrek hater.

Obviously I'm very pro-PICARD season 3. PRODIGY is excellent overall albeit allowing for the structural constrains of it being a children's focused animated project. PICARD season 2 and LOWER DECKS are deeply flawed with several incredibly bad decisions baked in, but are at least watchable and offer more enjoyable moments than outright bad.

PICARD season 1 is THE LAST JEDI of Star Trek, but somehow far worse. I only watched the season in early 2023, so had the bad points spoiled ahead of time and knew what to expect going in.

I dropped both DISCOVERY and SNW as they were airing. At the end of the day, hate watching still counts as watching. Letting something live rent free in my head is a choice. There's more than enough bad stuff in real life going on to exhaust my finite mental bandwidth.

S31 is a bit of a quandary. It is a new project, and the writer at least has a good track record. I already have Paramount+ and am a bit curious to see it. So I'll put it on. If I start to hate it, I'll turn it off and then wait for the recaps. If it got good again, I'll just dip back in, albeit having been spoiled.

FWIW, one of the worst things for a streaming project if Netflix is any guide is for people to start watching it and then drop it midstream.

I just a straight up Star Trek Nerd. ;)
Well, obviously. ;) But as a straight up Star Trek nerd, I like to look at the entire tapestry of Star Trek storytelling and how well (or not) it all fits together. My philosophy is that there are no retcons or canon violations, there is just information that the viewer doesn't have yet. I look forward to seeing how well (or not) this story will manage to connect one thread of the tapestry to the other. :)

The trailer looks fun. I'll get around to it eventually. How well will this fit in with previous lore about Section 31? We'll see. But I don't really care so much about that. I'm more concerned about how much it will entertain me, and how good the stories themselves are. If it doesn't entertain me enough, and I find the storytelling to be mediocre, then I may stop watching. Or I might just halfway pay attention to it as background chatter while I'm doing house chores. That's how a lot of ST:Picard and Disco were for me.

Yes, not all of CBS Trek has been my "cup of tea," but I don't hate any of it. Life is too short to expend mental energy on hating some fluff pop-culture entertainment. People get waaaaay too emotionally involved with this kind of thing, as far as I'm concerned.
