Maybe, depending on the material. If the join is made of similar metals, they’ll cold-weld when they touch in a vacuum.
I guess that’d be an even bigger problem with magnetic plates, potentially. Space is a real pain in the ass.

Not sure if this is the right place for it since I'm new, but notice that all the ships encountered thus far in SNW are looking like the Enterprise? I'm guessing that the fleet has been undergoing upgrades and refits to be more like the new tech fitted on the Connie class after the war.
Neither is The Archer in the series opener.A nod to TOS.
Though the ship in The Broken Circle isn't a Connie.
But the Archer, Farragut, fake Crossfield etc. do all have the same look as the SNW Enterprise, with those distinctive nacelles.
And the Reliant's looks like the Enterprise's. Maybe the not-Crossfield is "prerefit Miranda".
The not-Crossfield was made by rogue Klingons in a cave with a box of scraps, so I don't think it's meant to be any Starfleet class.
It's extremely similar, like how the Nova class looks very similar to the Sovereign class, hinting that they're from around the same generation.

Sorry, I meant sorr of looked like, not exactly like. The nacelles seen on all ships so far look quite the same.
I love that!!! If you look closely behind the Enteprise while in drydock and during departure in the first episode of season 1 you can see a shepard class ship, likely being converted for these fleet wide upgrades. What I still don't like about the SNW ships is that you can clearly see next to the current impluse engines where the ones from the Cage used to be, and where they engine thrusters will be in the future between the current engines.
I will not miss the square nacelles
Actually, they've shown another ship class docked at Starbase One in Jupiter orbit and we've seen a one nacelled Scout ship (Archer Class in the episode but also may be a nod to the Hermes class depicted on the Franz Joseph STAR TREK Technical Manual (Citca 1975.)
