News Star Trek: Section 31 Movie with Michelle Yeoh Announced!

Good thing that's not it.

They're loss. Star Trek shouldn't be just comfort food.

Who's embarrassed? And why should they be? It's art, not a writ on life. If it doesn't work, then it goes with other failed art projects. Too bad, so sad, no harm, no foul.
Star Trek shouldn't be shit that propagandises genocidal intelligence agencies either, but here we are.

And what should it be? Who sets the rules? Who gets to decide what Star Trek is and isn't?

And who says it is propaganda? It's a TV show.

Seems like an awful amount of rules are being tossed around for a TV show.

This trailer is loud and it's flashy and it's dumb, but the movie itself might be good.
What if its bad?

What is the worst that happens?

Seriously, I am curious to hear answers. How did people tolerate the different "odd/even" films that are "bad/good" in Trek? Is one movie going to sink the franchise?

Then it's one more Trek project I skip down the road. A whole lot of VOY, DSC and PIC episodes were bad or terrible and I sure didn't let all those ruin my love of Trek as a franchise.

Fandom goes on.

Be curious to see if this show does that

Teal'c: Indeed.

Some random info from IMDB:
Jeff Russo is the composer
Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman have credits as the creators of you know what...
Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt potentially have credits as the earlier developers of SECTION 31, but Craig Sweeny has (sole) writing credit in the WGA database, so who knows?

SECTION 31 had an "intimacy coordinator"

There are credits for a Xindi and a Vaadwaur

Paul Kirby, the production designer, hasn't done anything for Star Trek before
DP is Glen Keenan, a Toronto NuTrek regular

Even though it's with different portions of Star Trek, that's exactly my take as well. So, I agree with you here where it counts.

Maybe some of them managed to flee Cheron before the planet self-immolated and that guy in the trailer is one of the children or descendants of those who managed to flee the race war.
Or he's just a Earth dude cosplaying. That's why his hair is also half-and-half. ;)

"The Space CIA but with an unlimited budget and led by Hitler with no rules to follow is good, actually" is not an interesting premise. Or something that belongs in Star Trek.
Please. You complain now, but we all know that if the credits included the term "Written By Terry Matalas" you and everyone else critical of the Section 31 movie would suddenly fall madly in love with it.

BillJ is critical of Section 31 and isn't a fan of Terry Matalas' work. While I'm a fan of Terry Matalas' work and am looking forward to Section 31.

So that's at least two of us who don't fit the above.

Judging by the Chris Pine Kirk in Phily B's avatar, I don't think he fits the binary description you have either. I wish he'd stop going on and on and on and on (we get it already, Phily!), but that's a different thing.

Previous posts have indicated Phily to be a Matalite who belies Picard S3 to be the greatest thing since sliced bread and a belief that the True Fans deserve Legacy. I stand by my previous post.

While I'm not one in love with Matalas, let's be fair that people have been opposed to Section 31 since the announcement and I'm doubtful that even Terry could persuade those who think Section 31 is ruination of all Trek. I think that the only way it would win opposers over is if we had a Garak series.

It's an interesting study of contrasts.

Craig Sweeny wrote SECTION 31. He has a great deal of CV overlap with Berman-era veterans Ira Steven Behr, Rene Echevarria, Robert Hewitt Wolfe, and Robert Doherty through THE 4400, ELEMENTARY, and MEDIUM. He likely was recruited by Bryan Fuller to be part of the original DISCOVERY writing staff.

Sweeny probably was noted to death over S31, but because he's involved, I'm willing to give it a chance despite the iffy promotional material. I can always turn it off.

I am very critical of what has been shown about S31 so far. If Matalas wrote it, I'd be even moreso.
